Recruiting Football Talk VIII

So I have seen so many people being up the QB starting record “stat” when talking about how successful a QB is. Now that insinuates that a QB wins games. Which is ridiculous. Here is why people need to stop using the QB starting record crap.

Today Josh Allen threw for 342 yards and 3 TDs and ran for 82 and 3 TDs. That’s 424 yards. Buffalo had 445 TOTAL yards. So Allen accounted for about 95% of the teams offense and lost. So does that mean the Bills loss should be on Allen?

The BCS is nearly identical to what the committee did. Plus it would put Bama in over SMU so it’s definitely flawed. Nobody has an easy path to the national championship. Everyone is saying OSU sucks and should be rated below us. If they suck we should be able to beat them at the stupid horseshoe. Glad Heupel and company don’t think that way. They lost to Michigan at home. It will be a tough game but if we are a real contender we should be able to beat them. Anyone, anytime, anywhere.
I'm not Josh Heupel....I can be objective. If you think just because Meatchicken ran them at home means that we are going to run them at home, then you are not that bright.

That is one of the most ferocious rivalries in all of sports and OSU clearly lost simply because UM is in their head....I hate to break this to you, but we are not in their head, there will be no psychological edge for us.

They are pissed off and embarrassed, and they are going to play like their hair is on fire...and they have one of the two most deeply stacked rosters in CFB.

Winning this game is going to be a monumental achievement...if we play our best, then we can win, but we don't play our best against good teams on the road.

Also...anybody that says "OSU sucks" is an idiot, I don't know any people that think "OSU sucks". Just because our people think we have a better resume and deserve to host the game...does not Jean we think OSU sucks.

This is simply the truth of our current place in the rebuild...if we were playing at Neyland, this is a likely win, but with it being in Columbus it is a likely loss...we simply have not shown the ability to play great against good teams on the road.

I would love to see that narrative change...but I don't expect it will right now.

I hope you're right and I'm wrong...I will gladly eat crow....I actually love to eat Crow.

That anytime anyone anywhere is nonsense bravado. There hasn't been a college football team pretty much ever that could beat anyone anytime anywhere. You need good match ups and home crowds and luck to win national titles.
I hope we can pull this off...but it will be extremely tough.

That's just the truth of it.

I don't trust anyone on that committee to make a sane logical decision
I get it and the mealy mouth double talk was nauseating but if you look up what the BCS projections were it’s basically identical. We are all biased and it’s just going to come down to opinions. I think the correct 12 teams got in at the end of the day. The biggest issue is giving a 9 and 12 seed first round byes. Actually Oregon got screwed worse than us. At the end of the day you are going to have to beat several good teams to win it. I think there could be some surprising results. Let’s ride.

Do you think OSU scores 24+? I don't think it'll be much more if they do. We're probably gonna need around 30ish to win. I like our chances if we break 30.
I think 30is way more than enough. Both defenses are good, their offense isn't great, our offense is bad on the road. 23-17 type game.

Given that "How good is Josh Allen?" isn't a numerical stat, all we are left with is approximations.

Josh Allen has certainly won games where he played terrible. If you think one specific example makes the generality invalid, you're just arguing that speaking in generalities is bad. And it isn't bad. Good QBs win more games than bad QBs. There's nothing wrong with that generality.

I completely understand that it’s a tough match up and we would have a far better chance to beat them in Neyland. I have just seen them play a few times this year and they are not as good as they have been in the past. They have looked similar to Bama and the logo makes them seem a little better than they are. I have heard numerous people that know football very well saying that Ohio State doesn’t match up well with our strengths. I’m just happy to have a shot. If we play well we can beat them. It would definitely be easier at Neyland.

Yep. Such a garbage system. Way way way more complicated than it should be, which always leads to poor results.
The root of the complication is that the conferences don't want to discard their cash-cow championship games; but those games are illogical in the context of an expanded football playoff. You can get away with the redundancy in baseball and basketball where teams play millions of games, although it is awkward even there. They either have to count those games and downgrade the losers in the rankings, or not count the games at all, as they tried to do this year, as they tell it: turn them into glorified spring scrimmages.

Hey Bama, no shame in the Reliaquest Bowl. Welcome back to reality and hopefully another Dubose-Francione-Price-Shula era! Too many spoiled “social media era” Bama fans out there who are quick to forget life before Nick Saban. The Vols are here to stay, and really just back where we belong after stepping on our own feet for too long!
Social media era fans. 🎯
