Recruiting Football Talk VIII

That's the market for a 5 tool baseball player. Steve Cohen (Mets owner) is worth $21.3 BILLION dollars. Paying Soto $765 million is a trip to the clothes store for Cohen's wife,.

I’ve always been back and fourth with how professional athletes should be paid.

After this, I won’t say another word about it…..it’s not fair.

Don’t see why professional athletes can’t just make 300-400k a year and be fine. Isn’t everything paid/catered for by the team?

I wouldn’t necessarily say Soto is a 5 tool player anymore. GREAT hitter but not a good base runner or fielder

Best possible outcomes for the Vols today imo. --- Texas's resume is in serious debate/question.
- Carson Beck injured (not celebrating this, it's very unfortunate for him. Never like to see guys get hurt.)
- Penn State loses, will likely drop past Ohio State
- SMU loses to Clemson on a buzzer beater 56yd field goal meaning the committee basically HAS to keep them in the playoff which boots Bama.
From the description, Beck may only have a stinger. If so, he could easily recover in 3 weeks. If it’s something else, then uga will seriously be in trouble for the playoffs.

Interesting.

"First off, I'll say watching film, picking up cues on when they're going to do it (stunts/twists)," said Georgia offensive lineman Tate Ratledge when asked about blocking the UT defensive line. "What are they doing when this foot is back every time? I remember actually against them two years ago, when we played them here (Athens), one of their defensive ends, every time he had his outside foot back, they were teeing. So, picking up on stuff like that. And kind of just throughout the game, noticing stuff."

Tate Ratledge is a commie b@$t@rd. Screw him.

Some expenses are on the players but yes mostly covered by the team. Free Agents like Soto wanted to be paid like Ohtani, the only thing is Ohtani didn't get the $700 million dollar contract for hitting as we will see this upcoming season besides being a great hitter. Ohtani is a great pitcher as well.

Should Soto have got $765 million? I wouldn't have paid Soto that but it's not my money either.

that explains a lot. bet arkansas did the same.

georgia hasn't played that well against anyone else in several games. we have to figure out how to pressure this bg10 opponent.

Way back when all that was being sought was an “And One Game” I predicted we’d follow the (then) I-AA playoff game model and that carried through to when they tried to placate the masses with FOUR teams. Now that I see the end result of 12 teams? I think it’s cleaner and tidier and amps the excitement of the regular season. There will always be the aggrieved martyrs, but this is as fair as biased individual can build a consensus on imo.
The problem is the automatic bids for conference champions. If they would just attempt to do what the originally stated goal of the playoffs was then it would be fine. Pick the twelve best teams. No DEI bids. I and if you're going to have a committee have people who represent the relevant parties in major college football, not a soccer chic or the coach of a middle school in South Dakota. I don't really have a problem with Jabba the Warde but why not other conferences? Put DW on there, HOF coaches, heck even Gary Stinky Pinkie is better than most of them.

So, first we take down Ohio State. Then we take down Oregon. With the Big 10 out of the way, we beat Texas before finally getting a rematch with Georgia for all the marbles. Seems doable.
I don't think Georgia will beat ND, the back-up QB ain't gonna be Stetson Bennett. We will play the winner of PSU and ND.

Lmao...this is stupid...how many Dlinemen are gonna stand there flat footed when they're about to stunt/blitz?
This ain't no tell.....jesus

Clemson is gonna get killed by texas, but I so want texas to lose.

A good friend’s sons are both going to texas. The entire family has been subjugated and are now obnoxious as eff longhorns. I’m amazed at how quickly they became condescending pricks. It makes me sad, but my hatred for all things longhorn has increased exponentially. It’s so bad that I actually found myself rooting for uga to win the SECCG.

How much fun would it be for Clemson to beat the longhorns, then, I don’t care who wins between ASU and clemson. However, since I hold no animosity towards ASU, let clemson beat them barely.

Then there’s a rematch of Tennessee clemson in the next round. Dabo would have a nervous breakdown if he has to play Tennessee again. Especially with a Tennessee that’s better than the last time.

Tennessee versus Indiana for the National Championship game? Any of y’all on board with this scenario?

We have the toughest path to the semi-finals. It’s only right that we get an easier path to the NC!

I’m not sold at all that TX will kill Clemson. They aren’t nearly as good as the media has hyped them up to be

Interested to see how we handle dry cold weather. Being from the warm and humid south, it does numbers on me. I remember stepping off the plane in NYC in December, around 6 degrees, and my nose immediately started bleeding lol
Ok let's put this stupid weather thing to rest. Columbus is only a few degrees latitude north of Knoxville, the weather is not going to be much different than if it were a home game. I have sat in some horrific Vandy games in Neyland in November.
Believe me those Blowhio players won't fare any better than us on a crappy field. When it's crappy out they practice in the indoor facility just like us. WGWTFA.

Your opinion is your opinion.

It’s 2024, tradition needs to get thrown out the door. At least it’s slowly starting to finally!
- Smokey
- Blacks
- Lady Vols Blue accents.

Loving it.

The weather thing is ridiculous. The time of kickoff, crowd, and our ability to deal with adversity will dictate our position.

OSU may have more talent, but who is the better team?

I guess the question you've gotta reckon with then is, who should get the money? The revenues aren't slowing down. Would rather see the players getting it than the owners, but I also agree $50+ million / year seems absolutely nutty.
