Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Every game it seems we have someone lined up offsides.
We have more DL offside called than anyone I’ve ever seen. Almost makes me wonder sometimes if someone is on the mic set seeing from above or seeing from TV where the line is telling these refs to call us offsides. I see other teams lineup with guys being offside and never getting called.

Crazy Georgia moves to #2 in the AP when they LOST THEIR QB
Tbf, the AP/coaches, unlike the CFP as we saw last year, doesn't really focus on injuries and projecting forward.

They base off past results and let teams prove it on the field after that. They've never been a power ranking type.

(That said, and maybe just me, but Stockton appeared just as skilled, yet flawed, as Beck)

Wish I could like this 100000 times
Kendrick Law entered the portal today.

** he’s 5’11 and looking at who we have coming back it seems our only target above 6’3 would be Brazzell. I’d assume we would want taller receivers but Law, Matthews, White, Brazzell would help Nico out tremendously.

lol, Ohio jumps us in the AP.

Make it make sense.
Doesn't matter, nor that complicated.

I tried to stress last week how razor thin the difference was. Only 24 votes. They're now 9 votes ahead. That's a small amount of movement in AP polls with thousands and thousands of poll points at play.

A quick view says PSU votes swung toward OSU (maybe maybe not, but an easy regional explanation as PSU lost votes). Also easy to consider the AP is being anchored by the CFP's prior poll at this point.

Also, I’m over the narrative of “Tennessee has to play in the cold and that’s a clear advantage for OSU”.

They have to play in the cold too and from what I researched they’ve got a lot of transfers that haven’t played in the “cold”

Hell, they don’t normally have home games in the final weeks of December. They are at a disadvantage too.
I agree it’s getting ridiculous
It’s some people’s reasoning for picking against us

Knoxville isn’t some hot beach town
It gets cold

2021: “I just hope we can get to a bowl game. I’ll never take 8-win seasons for granted again.”

2024: “WTF, WE’RE THE 9-SEED IN THE PLAYOFF?! What is this GARBAGE??? WHY EVEN WATCH?!”
Right...

Gotta take it like grownups. We earned our way in. That's the important part.

The shizzy system, set up many months ago, led to this disastrous route for us and a couple others. But here we are, a very flawed team, but with every opportunity ahead of us.

It's up to us now.

So how much lean will the refs have towards osu
Home game, so about 20%.

But baked into the spreads, as it's a part of every home field advantage.

+7.5 is optimistic for us if it holds. We have a legitimate shot. Believe we were +10 vs UGA and held up well.

It’s the reset of expectations. Rightfully, as you move up you readjust naturally. Tennessee has no reason not to be a great program in everything

Miss State: Bad season + git shirts for a bunch of projects they brought in last offseason.
Arkansas: Bad season + Pittman coaching likely final year
Kentucky: Obvious. It's Kentucky and Stoops has lost favor with everyone.
A&M: Actually suprising. Very good 1st season with Elko. Might be a few git shirts.
OU and LSU: Obvious for different reasons. OU sucks. Brian Kelly sucks.
Vanderbilt: Surprising unless its guys who improved their NIL potential this season and now transferring to bigger schools.

Their best win was....vandy????
T&am. They're 26th.

UF is 32nd.

Vandy has no votes.

Tamu was "ranked" when played.

There's no perfect method (using ranked when played or end of season)

If Texas had lost, then they lost to a ranked team...but since they won and knocked A&M down, then their resume is punished...silly.

More reason to just use broad rankings and not just top 25. The binary division between top 25 and non top 25 teams is nonsense. Especially when 35-40 teams receive votes each week.

"Top 25" = ranked is just a marketing gimmick.

Ehh, he never shows his excitement all really. But he's the what 4th back, they all won't travel will they? Or is that a during the season thing?
He should definitely travel, and I wouldn't be surprised if he plays. He's got a couple weeks of practice and game prep to show they need him out there. I bet out of Seldon, Bishop, and Lewis that Seldon is probably the most reliable protecting Nico in pass pro. I think he still shows better vision and patience than Lewis too.

They beat two playoff teams. We beat zero. It's really as simple as that.

We all agree Indiana shouldn't be a playoff team, but even if you remove them (though the committee is obviously not removing them), they beat PSU.
