Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I agree that we absolutely need to get pressure but I wouldn't start with the blitz.

According to my analytics:
- Will Howard is the #9 QB in CFB against the blitz.
- OSU has the #2 WR unit on quick / short passing routes.
- The WR unit drops to #34 on deep routes.

Reading OSU boards, they lost to Michigan because the Wolverines were able to get pressure with just 4. OSU's receiver room is the best in the country, and they excel in the quick / short game. Obviously we need to get to the QB, but if we have to depend on the blitz to do that we're playing into exactly what they want.

They're missing their starting left tackle. They're missing their starting center.

We've got the #8 pass rushing EDGE unit, the #9 pass-rushing Interior DL unit, but only the #117 pass-rushing LB unit.

Pardon the essay, but I know we're going to see a TON of "why are we not blitzing more???" next Saturday. Given the strengths / weaknesses on these 2 rosters, the path to winning has to be to beat them with 4, and I really think we can.
Just checked on some of PFF's numbers to make sure I'm not crazy and they're seeing the same thing. Howard had 9.1 ypa against the blitz, 4.1 without it.

Missouri schedule is just as bad. After the ridiculously easy schedule they had this season...preseason THEY were picked to be a playoff team and maybe even in the SEC champ game due to their easy schedule
How do they get 2 extremely easy years in a row?!? If anyone should have an easy schedule this year its Flarda...who i hate more than anyone...but they played the hardest schedule in the SEC this year and probably hardest nationally. Sunbelt Billy probably deserves to be SEC COY. I said preseason that if they even made a bowlgame at 6-6 that he would win coach of the year. He did it...but it looks like the reject at SC will likely win it.

It looks to me like the conference schedules are being rotated every 2 years after playing a home at home with each team. So Missouri has an easy conference schedule this year then they'll get an easy conference schedule next year (OOC will still change). Then the conference schedule will cycle and they'll play a different set of 8 teams in '26 and '27.

I haven't checked every team but based on the schedules I looked at it looks like that's what's happening.

I appreciate it. I really do. But I'm not a great person, there are so many better. I'm just working overtime to compensate for me being a despicable human being in a former life.

It's my penance and I embrace it. We struggle daily, I think we all do. The person above through grace gave me the opportunity, I'm just doing my best not to screw it up and help the animals I can.
Same here. We work with a lot of animals. Unfortunately, that's because there are a lot of irresponsible pet owners and the onus falls on us to fill in. Well, I admit, ours could be an entirely different situation.

Way back when all that was being sought was an “And One Game” I predicted we’d follow the (then) I-AA playoff game model and that carried through to when they tried to placate the masses with FOUR teams. Now that I see the end result of 12 teams? I think it’s cleaner and tidier and amps the excitement of the regular season. There will always be the aggrieved martyrs, but this is as fair as biased individual can build a consensus on imo.
I think, eliminate the auto-bids and use the ranking week just before the conference championship games...place the teams how they’re ranked at the end of the final regular season week.

We live probably 20 minutes apart bud. Agree with all of this. I am stuck here because i married here and had kids...much rather be in Knoxville which will always be home to me.
Married a Fort Mill girl and brought her to Knoxville. When we started dating it was just a small town, now I get lost every year when we visit for Christmas. Crazy to see the changes in the last 16 years.
