Marshall opts out of Independence Bowl vs. Army amid transfer portal exodus, per reports

Bowl games, other than the ones involved with the playoffs, will be dead in less than 5 years.
On the one hand I think that the expanded playoff benefits teams like Tennessee because it makes us a contender and stops funneling all the talent to the same 5-6 programs every year.

But sometimes I wonder if the sport would be better off going back to the BCS days, having two teams play for the championship, and having the outcome of bowl games mean something again. Especially NY6 bowls and the bowls just below those. I remember how pumped I was to go to the Outback Bowl after the 2015 season. Felt like we had taken a step.

One of the best parts about CFB is that at the end of the season, many teams could be happy even if they didn't win it all because they made and won a bowl game. But we're headed towards the NFL landscape where no one is happy unless they win it all.

No, there is only 1 official in common with last year's championship game: umpire Danny Worrell.

The new crew has 2 officials in common with the Purdue crew: Jerry Magallanes, R, and Kip Johnson, F. I hope they do a great job.

I think he's going to be really good. Way way better than he's looked so far at the very least. Losing 3 starting OL and 3 starting WR to start the year made it impossible for him to be good.
I don't know. I agree that no QB was going to set the world on fire in that situation. But we heard all off-season that he had an interception problem. And then he came out and threw 3 picks in four games before being benched. Granted, he came in and protected the ball later in the year.

From what I've seen from him I don't think he sees the field well. That's fixable, but you're pairing him with Hugh Freeze. Who's biggest problem this year was a whole QB room of guys that weren't seeing the field well.

Plus, Hugh Freeze ran Peyton Throne like he was Cam Newton at times. I think he needs he an athlete at QB. Jackson Arnold is a whatever athlete just like Peyton Thorne.

The "draft preparation" trend punched meaningful bowls in the mouth, but the transfer portal shot them in the face.

Even if you went back to the BCS, I still think you would get a crazy amount of opt-outs and transfers.

We are literally in the playoffs and we are still dealing with it. I think the bowl festivities were a cool thing for a team that wasn't really getting paid. The players now would just assume buy a plane ticket if they want to go visit somewhere lol

Based on @TrippieRedd post, OSU the most “talented” team we’ll face this post-season unless we were to make it all the way to a rematch with uga.

I’m thinking this weekends game gonna be stressful as hell. Hope heupel and crew got a good game plan lined up.
Here’s their starting lineup just in case anyone is also interested in that

This is the rub. College football was special in part because it WASN’T all about winning the national title. Yes, winning it is amazing and an incredible accomplishment and all of that, but it wasn’t everything. Winning a conference was something to be proud of. Winning the Sugar Bowl was something to be proud of. How many old timers talk about how the 1985 Sugar Vols, who didn’t win the national title and had no shot at winning it going into the Sugar Bowl, are their favorite team of all time?

We’re losing all that so we can have an NFL clone. I don’t WANT an NFL clone. I hate the NFL. But hey, for folks who want that kind of football, Sundays are there for you!

Alas. All words on the wind, because it makes no difference what I think or want. This is happening.

Someone said Howard better against the blitz than not. Gotta figure out how to get pressure with 4-5 and not give up any freebies. Make the qb beat us with great plays or make mistakes.

What’s the deal with their OLine. Centers injured right? What else?

He seems like a nice enough guy. Maybe he learned from his experience.

Did they make forward progress reviewable?

No, still not review-able. I'd wager if he's not a completely irrational person, he looked back and regretted blowing it dead so early. I've never seen any goalline play shut down so early ever.
