Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Ohio State's offense doesn't impress me much. The skill positions are great but that OL really is going to slow them down.

Their defense, on the other hand, is really good. One of the best d-lines in the country, two lockdown corners, and an elite safety, and our offense tends to struggle with teams (pretty much just Georgia) that look like that.

They also blitz a ton from a bunch of different looks / directions and they get really good pressure with it. Nico's gotten better as the year's gone on, but handling the blitz has not been a strength of his at all.

If we're going to win this game:
- The defense has to get pressure with 4 so they don't destroy us in the short passing game.
- We have to beat them when they blitz. Nico really needs to take a step.
I have a feeling Tyree West is going to knock Howard out of the game.

Are you talking about their defense? They do have a good defense I think.
Yeah I think they look like us. Fast physical defense. Good running game. Splash plays in the throw game. But a QB that either vacates the pocket too quick or the line doesn’t protect well enough. I can’t tell.

I don't want a world where Indiana doesn't get in, and you take the 12 "best teams".

I mean think about that.

To Indiana: It doesn't matter that you play in a major conference, and it doesn't matter even if you go undefeated. Your recruiting talent composite is too low to ever be considered a top 12 team.

To Bama: It doesn't matter you went 8-4. You beat a couple of good teams, and your talent composite means you will be favored by a few teams in the playoff field, and won't be a massive dog against anyone. So you get in.

**** that world. The rankings are fine. Just lose the auto bids and seed the teams according to the rankings. That's it. I'm fine with them weighing SOS a little bit more heavily, but I don't want to see them get so swept up in SOS that teams are eliminated because they start the season without enough 4-5 stars on the roster.

*no automatic bids. We were 7th in the AP and 6th in the coaches' poll
I like it at 12...I just don't like how they put teams in there. I have no problem with the scrub conference champions getting in...I do have a huge problem with them getting byes and high seeds.

I also have a problem with ND getting the deal they got.

I disagree on Indiana, they didn’t beat a single good team. That matters >>>> record. They were awarded a seat because of the brand equity Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan bring to the table.

Agree on Bama… eff them.

Edit: and FTR, I think Indiana is a good team. They actually played pretty decent. They were just outmatched. Which we all (those beyond the rust belt) saw coming from a mile away.

4 conferences
2 divisions each

Top 2 of each division get in based on hard set rules, as every single pro league sensibly does it.

*or some version of this based on actual numbers*

No voting. No human bias. No BS.

It's almost too simple.
The conferences are not the same quality...so no...it is not that simple.
