Recruiting Football Talk VIII

According to some individuals on here, Sprye is the best thing since sliced bread. Personal I don't know..
none of us do. Spyre has never accounted for any of its status, positive or negative. There cannot be any scrutiny if we dont know where our money goes. One of reasons I quit my membership, was that very thing. Not that my $5 even made a dent.

I wish they were:

1. More vocal on campus
2. Attempting to wage, any fundraising campaign ie WIVK etc.
3. Allowed for one time gifts, targeted to football, baseball, etc.
4. Were more transparent about said gifts

Here’s another thing I’m mulling: is college football really that interesting of a sport?

Lots of blowouts. Vast talent disparity still exists, favoring a small handful of programs. Clunky playoff that is killing the significance of rivalry games and has produced only a handful of memorable games. Most programs are doomed to unending irrelevance as the rich get richer. Meanwhile, programs like Tennessee can get close to the top, but may have a glass ceiling without the resources of Texas or the recurring footprint of Georgia.

Still love the Vols and I will still watch. But I have asked myself that a lot in recent years.

Can baseball be extended to 365 games a year?

Yeah, but I mentioned in the game thread Golesh just hired Burns as his WR coach for next season. Doubt Burns leaves Golesh hanging like that and doubt Heupel does that to Golesh either. We do need an upgrade(s) imo.
Golesh didn’t just hire him as WR coach. He’s also Assistant Head Coach and co-OC.

He’s not going anywhere. I was just wishful thinking when I mentioned him.

The 1st round of the playoffs is an example of it being bad. Lopsided results are more likely, but the tradition, pageantry and great games that do happen outweigh the bad.

College football has been infinitely more interesting than the NFL this year.

And idk, blowouts happen in the NFL too. Tennessee, Indiana and SMU don't get blown out in every match up with who they played.

Ohio St still struggled against teams much worse than us this year, same for Penn St and Notre Dame. Probably had the most parity we have ever seen.

Just a bad day.

I think Inge has been pretty good. I think the gap created from losing pili created was a lot bigger than we could over come. Carter is really good by he needs a running mate. Telander, good player... Not fast enough. Safety was bad. Good effort from Brooks and jacobe... But both were exposed by much more athletic play.

And I don't think we called a defensive game to really attack the biggest weakness with our biggest strength.... The decisions and method we choose to show/hide pressure was not creative and we did exactly what we did against UGA and they too have a QB that's capable of dropping dimes to elite wrs. And that's what they did.

Just a really frustrating game to watch. And I do think for the first time that we might need to really evaluate what some of these coaches' celeings are, and if they've reached them. We weren't competitive. And if heupel was smart he would look at the result of this game the same way Fulmer looked at the result of that orange bowl against Nebraska in 97.
The DBs can literally only be good if the front 7 gets pressure. DBs were perfectly good all year until our d-line just died.

I blame Banks for just rushing four when they couldn't get home. Once again didn't try anything. Sure, afraid that you'll get burnt...but it was already happening!

As for LB, they are really young and it's not Inge's guys really. Pili would have helped tremendously, but once again, LOS game. Screwed if you get dominated.

Screwed if the offense can't play complimentary football either.

Florida Georgia bama would definitely beat IU. Not even close.
The Bama that scored 3 vs Oklahoma?
You sure?
Florida that beat UCF by 9, lost by about 30 to Texas, lost to A&M by 13? Not close??? Sure

Georgia- yeah and the only team that was really the big bad juggernaut you’re trying to pass these others off as.

LSU beat UCLA. 34-17
The week before
Indiana beat UCLA 42-13.

Agree. It’s interesting and fun but it’s a bad product if you like competitive football games.

I'll say this. Ohio State's team is really good. However, the atmosphere for a night playoff game was about 70% as impressive as a regular season Tennessee vs Kentucky game. Fans are quiet and corny. Gameday production was cut rate. Dotting the i is the corniest and lamest sh*t I've ever seen happen on a football field. We're very spoiled to have the atmosphere we do at Neyland. Atmosphere during the Dooley and Butch years all trumped what we saw last night.

Welp...the VN blame gaming and hating on everyone associated with our program is back. I will check back in a few months.

Merry Christmas. Happy New Year. Blessings on each of you and your families. Embrace them and cherish your time with them.
Enjoy the holidays. I don’t blame you. The toxicity is suffocating.

I've gotta disagree with "dotting the I" as lame........It's a pretty cool tradition.

I mean......Woody and Jack Nicklaus have done it.

Everything else about OSU blows, but that is a pretty cool.

Too reliant on transfers for offense. TE, WR, OL are basically all portal guys. Have to recruit and develop our own, especially for depth.

Speed and depth at LB and safety is pitiful and was EXPOSED last night. Have to continue recruiting to fix.

There’s a reason there has never been a champion below 50% blue chip ratio. We barely missed it this year but should be there next year. Once you are there then it’s up to coaching/QB to push you to the top. Until then you are just happy to have a seat at the table.
