Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Yeah there’s a pretty damning article floating around that has quoted from players/teams we’ve played and had success against us about how they knew exactly what we were doing based on what looks they gave us. One osu player said as soon as we went to 12 personnel we were cooked.

Even Jacob Warren pointed to how so many teams are now running a variation of this offense and it’s become predictable.

it’s literally 9 routes, that convert to curls on sight adjust plus while having a backside dig.

Been trying to tell people this since last season nobody wants to listen. Milton and Nico aren’t the problems. Defenses have quiet literally played different schemes against us because they know how to stop our offense

Next year is a come to Jesus moment for Heupel’s regime. Coach Heupel HAS to have another offensive mind join the staff, come in and change some things. Preferably someone who is a Qb coach too.

Either he can choke to be a “ stubborn OC”married to his system no matter what, or he can become an elite head coach who always adjusting and ready to do what’s best to fulfill his job as head coach.

Thing is only a couple teams have figured out or had the talent needed to defend this version of the offense. The O struggled all year this year but again vs everyone not named UGA or OSU we had guys running wide open and didn’t make those plays for one reason or the other. Hell we should’ve beaten Bama by about 3 TDs.

And we ran all over everyone outside of those 2 teams as well. When the other team manhandles us up front, the O really doesn’t work. No offense does.

That’s not to say Heup shouldn’t evolve it some. But to say his O is figured out is wack (not saying you said this btw).

Beautiful post and I couldn’t agree more. 👏👏
Thank you. I know people don't rely on the radio as much as they used to, but I've really missed it. I tried early on and gave Kesling a chance but he'd got on my nerves as much as the team did (lol). I always looked forward to John Ward on Saturdays, just as much as I did the VOLS. Win or lose, I knew he was going to be entertaining.

Yeah. But a lot of us didn’t need an article to tell us, we already knew.

Oh sh*+ ! I’m in trouble again, sunshine police gonna throw me in jail.
Not supposed to acknowledge the bad truths,
Just be happy we ain’t where we were 6 years ago.
My bad.
I'm well aware of the fact that it hurts if I smash my head into the wall. The problem isn't pointing that out, it's dwelling on our like it's your reason for living. If there is actionable intel the staff is unaware of, then by all means let's make sure they know. Constantly whining about it doesn't help anyone though.

Probably true. I heard last week that private equity groups are wanting to invest in college sports franchises like they do in professional sports. We already are letting guys play 6-8 years. It’s not college sports anymore. It’s just leveraging tradition and fan passion to create another pro sports league. Hard to fault 17-24 year olds for getting what they can get. Plus a lot of them come from poor families. The agents and handlers are leaches and are masters of taking advantage of them also. I don’t know the answer but it just seems unsustainable and have to think some fans will start checking out but the passion around my Vols runs deep.
Im not sure it's sustainable. I'm losing interest rapidly. I don’t watch pro sports for a reason.

We had 330 total yards against a 6-6 Arkansas team and held to 14 points. Held to 17 in regulation vs UF and had 312 total yards. 340 yards vs OU and 66 of that came on 1 plays. 120 of it came on 2 plays. We were fortunate to play so many terrible SEC teams down the stretch

Bama didn’t adjust their offensive scheme for us

Yeah instead we had Carter and Telander covering receivers. SMH 🤦🏻‍♂️

And the worst part was how poorly Telander was playing the run.
He was sent the wrong direction on every influence counter. My goodness. Awful.

The cold definitely affected the team too. They didn’t look this slow all season. Even just turning their hips they looked like they were in slow motion.

I’ve stayed at a holiday inn and I am a strength and conditioning coach so take this with a grain of salt, Tennessee’s s&c coaches allowing the team to warm up shirtless was asinine. The blood flow to the brain slows down causing decrease in reaction time and movement. Literally waste of energy, the exact opposite of what you want in pre-sport preparation

That was very stupid.

Yes but thats bc we could out talent those lesser teams. There needs to be counters when the talent is equal or better than, it’s why coaches get paid so much money.
for example,
Once Ohio state saw us play over the top safety help on their deep shots, they went to crossers …
We don’t have that shot in our golf bag and that’s what coaches get paid to do, adapt and adjust

It’s a football forum to discuss UT football.
If you need a support group to “help “ you
I suggest you ask freak to start a sunshine pumper forum so you guys can go and only talk about the good and happy things

In 2021 against Florida we ran a mesh concept to Jimmy Holiday that he dropped. I've been waiting on us to run another since.

Also 23 Florida had a couple really good plays in there. I remember one unique one where Sampson did an orbit motion bubble and the TE came back and blocked behind him. We got called for a crack back but it was a really cool play design.

I wanna know where that stuff went.

Agreed! some of my biggest memories are my dad watching the game and listening to John Ward. He was a staple in our home! I tried to continue the tradition when I get older, but I just can’t stand Bob. He’s such a bore.

If we had lost by 14 or less, there would still be the outliers but most of us could live with it and chalk it up to talent. What happened Saturday night was a complete beat down. We looked out manned, out coached, and flat out confused. We were annihilated.

That warrants serious reflection. There is nothing about the game outside Nico busting his tail and maybe Peyton Lewis running well that I would be afraid of losing to transfer portal or firing. Nothing. Hopefully some of the new guys take steps forward next year and we get some investment into coaching. There is a pattern of elite teams having fun playing us. Bama is the only outlier, and both of those were at home.

We suck on the road. It's as simple as that. That's been our problem for years. I think LSU is the only decent team we've beaten on the road in a long time.
