Recruiting Football Talk VIII

In today's college football, you have an opportunity to completely overhaul areas of your team that is lacking. You can't keep everyone but you can keep what is important.

In this stage of the game, a great scouting and analytics department is a must. Movement in the game is here... be smart and take advantage of it. The wise will prosper.

We will not be going back to the old days where power players and NCAA bullies decided who could compete.

Also I've always said Boo should be on offense. True game changers are hard to find.

I'll admit it. I prefer, from a fan point of view, for college to be Amateur and the Pros to be, well, the Pros. But that genie escaped the bottle. Always wanted them to be compensated but not this wild wild west approach.
There'd be nothing wrong with it, if also for the coaches being compensated as amateurs, and amateur-level ticket prices. Same as HS. The coaches could go back to teaching history like Neyland early on.

But nobody winked an eye when coaches starting getting millions. The can was opened decades ago and not by the players, even a bit.

He was talking about limiting NIL. It would be like telling Mahomes he couldn't do State Farm commercials or limit how much he could make.
Guess that could still be a part of a voluntary CBA to even the playing field against big market teams, but don't think it's ever been done before.

To your point - yes definitely not normal or commonly accepted. Doubt players would ever want to agree to it.

I think we'll be seeing Boo on offense next season.
I wanted to see him on offense also. Think maybe they didn't play him was because Thomas was out for the season and lack of depth ? GBO 🍊
“lol” Bama had a generational coach and now they don’t. NIL has nothing to do with their previous success.
Paying players before NIL sure did. And NCAA turning a blind eye 👁️

Baseball and basketball are still elite. We can afford that, but not football. I really believe you have to sacrifice all other sports to be at the top of college football now, and I don’t think it’s worth it.
Lmfao 😅🤣

Don't forget the blue font.

Surely you didn't let one game take your soul while accepting Bama, LSU, Ole Miss, OU, UF, Auburn, TAMU, and the lessers didn't even make the playoff.

Same. I don't like it from an entertainment perspective, but the NCAA brought this on themselves (and us) with their decades of greed.

So replace squirrel with boo?…why would you not?…lol literally a no brainer…we all wondered why he wasn’t playing…especially after squirrel was constantly getting hurt….boo and Mathew’s lined up on the same side is scary hours.
Boo and Matthews would be lethal on the same side or even one on each side. 🙌

Maybe the Boo Carter rumor was to soften the blow when it turned out to be Squirrel. Or maybe just an agent leveraging for more cash. Or maybe people freaking out over nothing.
Or maybe they had to pay so much to keep Boo they had to make cuts elsewhere. We don’t have unlimited funds so what you have to pay one player has to be taken from another. Everyone wants to sign everybody but very few seem to realize there’s not a money fountain in the athletic department pumping whatever amount they need. Would seem Boo holding them hostage to get his would have to impact the ability to get or keep other players. Probably limited our ability to make a counter offer to the offensive lineman everyone wanted. Ultimately they can’t spend more than they have. I hope he’s worth it?

Do you think that every athlete at each school should be paid the same amount? Is it fair and just that the goal keeper on UT’s women soccer team gets paid less than Nico??? Is that just? Is that fair???
Yes, it just and fair for the goalkeeper to be paid less than Nico. And it's really very easy to see that.

A college football game and the players involved, which I have season tickets to attend, have nothing to do with justice or fairness.

You know nothing about me, and the fact that you’d make this personal says much more about you.
I know as much as I need to about you to make that conclusion based on your comments. If you don't like people attacking you for the things you say, then say different things.

Kids enabling universities to make literal billions weren't fairly or justly compensated for years. The fact that you think those decades of unfairness surrounding the game you attend and enjoy have nothing to do with justice or fairness further reinforces my opinion of you.

ya'll remember a few weeks ago when we got a playoff berth and got whipped in every facet of the game, by a bigger, stronger, faster, complete team? Got a lot of work to do and a long way to go to beat a team playing like that... Wonder what our coaching staff took from that whipping?

I am hoping they wake up and get to work in the portal and the recruiting trail... Especially after the mass exodus of players that seems to keep building by the day...

So far (we still have playoff teams that could have players enter and there's a few descent ones left, or we look at the spring portal, but that will be players who are finding out they aren't going to cut it or start, so mid talent) they seem to be asleep at the wheel, or want to pay McDonald's prices for filet mignon...

Very disappointing so far, especially with how far and awesome this staff has taken this program... from the ditch to the fast lane with a playoff in four seasons... I am hoping in the offseason our coaches wake the F up and realize everyone's figured out our basic offense, make some huge adjustments and add wrinkles, make much needed changes to staff so that we are developing the talent we are getting properly and to the fullest, actually go get the talent we need and pay the price, and for goodness sakes, either get a new DC, or explain to him that he actually needs to make adjustments before, during, and at the end of every game for the following week based on the opponent...

I am hoping this doesn't turn into a tease of a run and we fall back into a mid to B+ program who wins 8-9-maybe 10 games once in a while and goes to a nice bowl. We will see sooner than later. Other teams are stacking up their empty shelves with the talent they need... will we? So far, not so good.

I have been a collective member since it started, have had season tickets, etc, but with the inflated ticket prices, "talent fees", ridiculous concession prices, and what seems to be a "meh, we're good with who we got" attitude at this point, I'm not down with throwing any more money away on a program that's not interested in doing what it takes to get to a championship level.

First basketball game attending in TBA mid Jan, can't wait!

I like Boo at slot & Squirrel just isn’t big enough to really be “the guy” at this level. He’s good, but we need WRs with the ability to run block too & he was a liability there.

We saw a big improvement this year when the secondary was overhauled and the youth movement took over. Hopefully WR group & OL improves doing the same thing.

It's about revenue.

Which is why football players deserve most of the $...more than their coaches. It's the free market, deal with it.
