Recruiting Football Talk VIII

You lose all credibility when you try to claim only teams with elite WR rooms (and you nsmed 4) were better than our WR room in 2024. Our WR room was bad. Not elite, not good, not average. It was bad.
I don’t have any credibility so not sure what there is to lose.

Just my opinion. We were not bad. We just weren’t good enough and we had expectations that we would be. Bru served his purpose. Thornton served his purpose. Squirrel underperformed due to injury. Nimrod caught a bad case of the drops. If squirrel and nimrod have better seasons we likely don’t feel the way we do.

And we can point fingers at the wide receivers all day long but if we had better o line play than all of our receivers have better seasons, and that lacking was a big contributor to our passing game not being able to catch stride this year. Campbell being worse moving to right side and heard being out of shape and not as good as he has potential to be were just as much contributors to a bad passing game as the wide receivers issues.

So…rumor has it Nico and his dad met with Heupel yesterday to discuss the OL and WR as they both aren’t happy with it (both being nico and his dad). Also, apparently Nico visited Miami and Oregon during the season
Don’t buy it solely because Miami doesn’t have a WR room worth a damn either.

Literally their best WR bailed lol

I can say I saw Heaven Lee at The Black Poodle back in the day.
"There was once a venue in Printers Alley called the Rainbow Room, and the owner was David “Skull” Schulman. He was loved so much by other Nashvillians that the Nashville City Council declared him “The Mayor of Printers Alley.” Originally, the Rainbow Room was an exotic dance club that “Skull” eventually converted to a country bar in the 1990s. Prior to its conversion, the club was the only venue in Nashville that had a live band performing music for its dancers.
Tragically, one night in 1998, Schulman was attacked and murdered by two assailants while he was working alone at the club. The killers were eventually caught, but his club didn’t reopen. Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar rented the space for storage for a while, but none of the employees wanted to go in there. Many swore that they saw a shape resembling “Skull” walking around the club and could hear his voice calling out to them.

Easily our most productive wide receiver, Thornton, would have been a #2 or #3 wide receiver on a team with a good to great WR room.

If this is true it just shows that the average fans aren't the only ones that have seen we need a lot of help at those to positions. If it's talent that's one thing but if it's the inability to develop talent, that is something else totally. The one thing that will bring down a coach faster than anything else is being too loyal to the friends (coaches) they have brought along with them. The belief the assistants can do the job when the signs show they can't is a tough call but sometimes one that needs to be pointed out in no uncertain terms.

Like it or not, if we dont improve the OL and especially the WR unit, Nico will transfer. Im not just talking about getting Matthew’s to return, im talking actually bringing in extra talent
Time to earn that #2 NIL collective rating and get our donors to pony up. Tell guys like dom bailey to move on so guys like tyre west can take the stage. Need guys like heard to transform and reach their potential. Tamper and bring in a couple big names in the spring portal. And for the love of god please crack top 5 with the 2026 recruiting class. This is a big year for heupel to take the next step or get stuck with 8-10 win seasons and a “good but not good enough” stigma.

To be honest, I don’t give a **** what Nico wants. If you’re eating up the biggest chunk of the budget you need to be the best player on the team. Not making petty post directed at players leaving, not (allegedly) shopping around for new schools, & not missing routine throws during games where the WRs are doing their job and getting open.

Dylan Sampson was that dude, we should’ve spent all our social media power to get him in the Heisman conversation.

As I said in the FF….to believe this you have to believe that Nico flirted with the two teams with clearly the best qbs in college who were in their own playoff hunts while he himself was in his own playoff hunt. Literally zero chance he did any of this during the season.

The players will come and go forever now, even if they end up with collective bargaining.

Agreed with post except this. Once they have employment contracts, they'll be treated like coaches.

They could leave, but breaking contract would be expensive for the other school, making it doubly expensive to just steal someone.

You'll see much more stability, similar to pro sports (which CFB currently isn't fully similar to, because of these lacking standards which foster stability to a reasonable degree).

What we currently have is unlike any sport I can think of. No professional league would ever create such a system. And college game brought it upon itself after decades of abuse and maltreatment. This is the reckoning and the players are making up for lost time and money. Time for the unis to finally eat it and come to terms with the talent.

Skull always walked his Poodle around town in Hee Haw overalls. The Poodle had a diamond studded collar and leash. He was a legend no doubt. Boots Randolph had a place down there as well and there was another strip club called the Red Door Lounge. It was SHADY to say the least. Right across from the ALLEY was a restaurant called The Captains Table and at one time it was one of the fanciest places in Nashville. Back then Lower Broad and 2nd Ave. was nothing but Peep Shows and empty warehouses, things have changed a lot in 50 years to say the least.

Miami doesn’t make sense and he’d have to fight out former five star Dante Moore in his second year with Oregon to even play. Calling 🐂 💩

He was literally the best player on our side of the field vs OSU.
