Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Preston Williams, Justin Hunter, Da'Rick Rogers, CP, Deanthony Arnett...all somewhat similar recruits. CP is the only player I would have hated to not have in hindsight and a healthy Justin Hunter šŸ˜¢ . Rogers was okay but not worth the headache, no idea what Arnett did when he left but I'm guessing nothing, P Williams was talented and had a few flashes iirc but didn't produce in college or the NFL.
Rogers was the best WR of those

Im not against the hire, just saying I wasnā€™t overly excited about it. I guess I donā€™t know what exactly an analyst does. If heā€™s in charge of helping decipher offensive schemes, then why not get someone with more of a resume and less someone the HC knows personally? Again, not hating on the hire, just not saying ā€œwow, I canā€™t believe we got Landry freaking Jones to come help with the offense!ā€
Coaches are not watching hours upon hours of film, analysts are and provide this insight to the coaches sans cliff notes. Could be other teams stats and tendencies or could be their own. I think having a career NFL backup QB that Hype knows and who is familiar with his offense is a plus. Backup NFL QBā€™s do a lot of thisā€¦.

Yah. People have abused others many times in the past, because they see it as the correct way to "give a ****". Doesn't make it the right way just because it's common and emotional.
Agree. There is absolutely no place in public forum for things like threats, etc. And what has happened with the Spyre rumors - which it is suggested are the most damaging to our cause - is just crazy, and I would not be surprised if that was all started by opposing fans and ours just fell for it.

However, things like suggesting upgrades are necessary at very public and well-compensated positions do not in any way constitute abuse.

How could replay not confirm this as obvious targeting? AZ got hosed, affected the game in a major way.
Appeared to me the officials on the field favored ASU. The replay officials made the call on the targeting penalty. Not sure what conference or home office the replay officials for the Peach Bowl were from. They obviously wanted TX to win.

Preston Williams had a huge final season for the Colorado State Rams, 96 catches 1345 yards and 14 TDs, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dolphins and was on the team for 3 seasons. he's not in the CFL though with Montreal.

Justin Hunter had a good final season here, got drafted in the 2nd round too... a big time "what if" case had he not gotten hurt in 2011. He was averaging 105 yards a game until then.

Da'Rick flamed out as expected sadly.

CP still in the league and sadly we only had 'em for one season.

Arnett is an interesting case, spent 4 years at Michigan State and in those 4 years he had just 12 catches and 193 yards with 2 TDs. His one year with the Vols, 24 catches 242 yards and 2 TDs... made a bad move

Justin Hunter was my favorite player/recruit growing up. My HS track coaches raved about him to me after they saw him at regionals. Pretty sure I remember them telling a story about how the high jump bar wouldn't go any higher and he was going over it. He went off for 2 games and was off to a hot start against Florida before going down iirc. I thought he was going to be alright because he walked off. That one still sucks.

I wanted Tx to win but I think that was one of the worse replay decisions I have ever witnessed. It appeared
textbook targeting to me, and I was pulling for Tx.!

The underlying point being that passion does not make something the right thing to do. And your definition of "abuse" and the coach's definition of "abuse" (i.e. a dumb fanbase making a coach want to leave for a lateral position, which was the context in question) may not be the same. You answered a post about public ridicule. In the discussion at hand, the coaches' definition of what constitutes 'abuse' probably trumps yours.

Rogers was the best WR of those

He really was a specimen

6'3" 220lbs low 4.5s a 39.5" vertical 11' broad jump. Big, explosive and athletic as could be. Had he not bailed and just produced for his junior year at UT probably would have gotten himself drafted higher too.

But when one of your "stats" listed as an accomplishment at Tennessee Tech is "He passed 10 drug tests" that's not a good look. Another Josh Gordon situation it feels like, only he never put up numbers in the NFL like Gordon to earn multiple second chances.

Analysts help position coaches with their groups and some analyst help with game planning. I know one senior offensive analyst who meets with his OC before the final play call sheet is finalized and printed for offensive staff. He suggests changes and discusses trick plays and 2point plays. During games he is uses analytics to recommend strategies for 4th downs, field goals and punting.
Does he change anything in the scheme?

Not sure he would have made that large of an impact but he could have been a good player with the right coach. It's been a while though so I don't remember how much potential he may have had. His team and coaches were pathetic though so that didn't help. Don't recall if he had injuries or anything as well. That 2012 roster that he should have been a part of was loaded on offense. I'd love to have seen what Heupel could have done with that offense.
Rogers was a faster and more talented JJ. The difference is he couldnā€™t keep himself in check whereas JJ managed to channel himself. But he was an absolute beast and difference maker. He would 100 percent have made a difference in this offense. Just feed him Valium when not playing.
