Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Not according to that rule you cannot. Forceable contact to the head neck area with a shoulder, helmet, arm or fist..... Doesn't even have to be defenseless......... For the defense anyway.......
Read the rule again. Before you get to the 4 bullet points for targeting, it stipulates that it qualifies on a "Defenseless player." Then, any one of the 4 examples applies as targeting.

Edit: Going back to yesterday, I presume they didn't think the contact was forcible.

It was definitely head to head contact.
Also, the blocked ASU field goal bounced through the uprights without the kicking team touching it and should have counted as a made field goal, per NCAA rules.
I don’t think a FG can bounce through under NCAA rules. AI thinks it can (and I’m just a guy), but the rule says the kick is no good when it touches the ground. If blocked, it comes a scrimmage kick—basically a punt. The NFL might allow a bouncer to count, but not the NCAA.

That's pretty wild then..... Because I've seen targeting called on a running back getting hit while attempting to deliver a blow...... Certainly not defenseless..........

Which further illustrates my dislike of this rule.

Thanks for clarifying my misunderstanding.

Two different scenarios. The rule that was posted this morning involved a defenseless player.

A defensive player can still be penalized for targeting (on a non-defenseless player) if he uses the crown of his helmet. That type of play is prohibited altogether.

Cordarrelle Patterson was not the smartest nor did he have a grasp of the playbook, but that didn’t prevent the coaches from getting him the ball. The coaches could have accommodated that, but chose to play lesser talented guys that couldn’t catch the ball. Hopefully they learned from it.

Preston Williams had a huge final season for the Colorado State Rams, 96 catches 1345 yards and 14 TDs, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dolphins and was on the team for 3 seasons. he's not in the CFL though with Montreal.

Justin Hunter had a good final season here, got drafted in the 2nd round too... a big time "what if" case had he not gotten hurt in 2011. He was averaging 105 yards a game until then.

Da'Rick flamed out as expected sadly.

CP still in the league and sadly we only had 'em for one season.

Arnett is an interesting case, spent 4 years at Michigan State and in those 4 years he had just 12 catches and 193 yards with 2 TDs. His one year with the Vols, 24 catches 242 yards and 2 TDs... made a bad move

Big time…i honestly have no idea what he was thinking…big 10 teams just run the ball…hardly any passing plays due to scheme and sh** weather

Not sure he would have made that large of an impact but he could have been a good player with the right coach. It's been a while though so I don't remember how much potential he may have had. His team and coaches were pathetic though so that didn't help. Don't recall if he had injuries or anything as well. That 2012 roster that he should have been a part of was loaded on offense. I'd love to have seen what Heupel could have done with that offense.

Not gonna lie…after reading this and then looking at your user name…I felt like you were taking responsibility for some of those years…😭🤣🤣 how’s the Mercedes holding up?
