Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Thinking about getting a new car/truck, since the one I drive now is the only truck I’ve ever had, since I was 15. Looking into either getting a Civic or Corrola if I get a sedan, or a Tacoma-colorado-silverado if I get a truck. Any recommendations or opinions on any of those?
Take your time and do your research to find what best suits your needs. Test drive all of them. I have had trucks for the past 30 years including a Ford Ranger, Nissan Hardbody, GMC Sierra 1500, and two Ram 1500's. My favorite of those was probably my first Ram. A buddy of mine just got a new Honda Ridgeline and I honestly thought I would hate it , but it is actually pretty awesome! I recommend checking them out as well. Good luck!!

@UGA and @OU....would love a split.
UF and Bama b2b...i'd like a repeat of '22 please.
NCSU...everyone says it's good we're getting them early. i think the same might be true for us, with them? i think this game plays out a little like the Pitt game a couple years ago where the defense puts the team on their back. but i think this is a very important game to set the correct tone for the season, against a good NCSU team that is capable of winning this game.

the obvious is a lot depends on Nico and how far a long he really is, early. september is no joke, and i'm going to say he is where he's supposed to be, and because of that, the front 7....we get thru Sept at least 3-1, lose @ UGA and win the rest and finish 10 -2...losing to UGA and Bama or OU. 9-3 is on the table because we could lose to Bama and OU. the worst case i think is 8-4, but that would, to me, mean we lost a game to NCSU or UK, and neither of those would feel very good. sneaky road game at Arkansas after the OU game....going to Fayetteville has never been an easy prospect for us, though i don't expect them to be very good, but for some reason that game sticks out on the schedule like a sore thumb.

Florida will be better than their o/u of 4.5 suggests. and all they've heard for a solid year is how much they suck.....there's a lot of not so good in gainesville these days, but one thing that team doesn't lack is a talent. i think we should win this game, don't misunderstand me....but how often is it that Florida is made out to be a walk over? not very often, and i expect they'll show up.

10-2, hanging around the top 10 and we get in to the playoff this year.
I think people are overlooking NC State. It's a well known fact that our OOC games are with teams that are the best they've been in decades.

Most of my cars have over 200k. Here are some tips I recommend.

Get something older. If you are willing to buy used. 2018 ish as the newest. I know that is not for everyone.

The 2020 and newer stuff has had a lot of issues. Research if you go this route.

Avoid any cars with CVT transmissions.

If possible get a naturally aspirated car. Turbos wear out and are hard on engines. They get nice gas mileage though so weigh this on your needs. Just understand the costs.

Check the required maintenance schedule and budget any major recommended work. Too many people over spend on a car and under budget the maintenance. A typical service is about 1k now at a dealer.

Find a mechanic you trust. Get the sales person to let your mechanic look the car over.

Aside from @VolsDoc81TX and the others calling for 16-0. Name your pre-playoff record and cite if we make the SECC or the CFP.

The media consensus is 9-3. Here is my call.

UTC - win
NC State - win
Kent - win
OK - Win (coin toss 1)
AR - Win (closer than we like)
UF - Win by double digits demons exorcised
AL - Loss (coin toss 2)
UK - Win
Miss St - Win
UGA - hard loss, but closer than previous
UTEP - win
Vandy - Bludgeoning

10-2 miss SECC
Make playoff
Win play in game

I could see us reversing the coin toss games. I could see UGA being a coin toss if any of their offensive weapons get hurt. They are already thin at deep threat options.

Won't predict past that.
You can’t keep me from responding!

16-0 🤠

No coin tosses, just 16 games of arse kicking. 😎

I know where you can get an awesome '56 Ford truck for about $20k-$25k. . .

The New Tacos all have 2.4L 4cyl. Newer iteration of 22RE, heralded as one, if not the goat 4 cyl in history. Yes its Turbo Charged. But the re designs on a vehicle that 'used' to be a truck, are fantastic. Now its an SUV in a truck body.

By the time i'm in the market to buy one, itll be in that used car arena.

Who has $50K to spend on-a car? Even i could afford that, I wouldnt. Most id spend is $30K, ever.

Even on a luxury car. $30K

Win the lottery? $30K

Last car on earth? mmm, know what. I think ill pass, less you'll take $28K?

If the goal is to have a vehicle that is reliable with the lowest lifetime operational costs (gas/maintenance/repair) then it’s a Toyota or Honda for sure and IMO it’s not close.

Some companies have closed the gap with them since the 90s and early 2000s where they were comically ahead of everyone in terms of quality. but I still think they make the best vehicles

The Ford maverick looks pretty interesting too. A true midsize truck sized more like the old ranger and not a house on wheels

Florida might be pretty good this year unfortunately
We've been psyched out by UF for so long. I really just want to leave their whole roster of coaches & players laying on the field bleeding after beating them by 100 in October to exorcise that demon. Our annual crapping of our own pants against them has got to stop. Pre-Spurrier they were historically irrelevant and we need to send them back to that purgatory!

Ideally, I’d like to buy a new one, since I’ve never bought a brand new car and id like to have it for 10 years. Im 24, and the only vehicle I’ve owned is a 2004 dodge truck. I have heard that dealerships are outrageous with their mechanic fees, so even if I did buy new id probably take it to the family mechanic unless it was something included in the package

IMO - Learning to forgive ourselves so we can truly move forward in faith can be one of the hardest steps. This was something I wrestled with a long time. Loving others starts with knowing you are worth loving. I hope everyone hears that today because you all are.

August 22, 2024: Refuse to spend your valuable time on regrets and wishing you had made better choices or lived your life with greater integrity or loved and been loved more completely. Begin again today with better choices and love in your heart for those around you. You are still alive and can still make a difference. John 15:12-13 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down your life for your friends.
This one hits hard for me, especially your initial thoughts about learning to forgive ourselves. Thanks for this!
