Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Ideally, I’d like to buy a new one, since I’ve never bought a brand new car and id like to have it for 10 years. Im 24, and the only vehicle I’ve owned is a 2004 dodge truck. I have heard that dealerships are outrageous with their mechanic fees, so even if I did buy new id probably take it to the family mechanic unless it was something included in the package
Don’t do new

Anyone else get the sense that none of the VQ guys actually like Eric Cain? I think he does a pretty good job in his role but there doesn't seem to be much rapport there between him and Hubbs, Rob, and AP. Maybe it's just the format of the mailbag and roundtable videos but it seems like there's a lot of awkward silence after he says stuff.

The Ford maverick looks pretty interesting too. A true midsize truck sized more like the old ranger and not a house on wheels
Pretty sharp option for everyday use. Seriously considering keeping my F-150 and suping it up and getting a Maverick. Be nice to zip in and out of parking spaces.

I find Eric like nails on a chalkboard. He constantly repeats himself. Listen to his solo podcast and focus on how much he repeats himself (I guess it’s to emphasize his point) but once you hear it, it becomes insufferable. When he is with the whole VQ crew it’s not as bad though.

To each their own. You take the biggest hit on depreciation when you buy new. You also reduce your buying power significantly. My recipe has been to buy a much nicer or better equipped version of the same car with lower miles about 5-7 years older. You can easily find cream puffs that will last 2 decades let alone 1. If nothing else buy certified pre-owned or off lease. They always come with warranties.

If you have to have new stick to Toyota or Honda, but not CVT.

They are all old school and treat him like boomers often do. I think they mean well.

Yeah, I think anyone would have a tough time being the VQ emcee in the group videos/podcasts, especially as a relative newcomer. He doesn't have the commanding presence that's needed to maintain a good flow and that might partially be due to him being a different generation than the veteran guys.

Goodness don't take out a loan/buy a brand new car at that age. That 60k car loses $6,000 in value as soon as you drive it off the lot and then just continues to drop. I don't know why Americans want to spend so much on a terrible investment. I guess its because in our consumer culture if you have a $70,000 car and only $7,000 cash to your name people think you are doing well. But if you're driving a $7,000 vehicle with $70,000 cash in the bank people think you're bad off.

Joey Votto retired, Will Votto make into the Hall Of Fame?
Votto is a fall of famer in my book. He was one of the best hitters in baseball for a decade. Stats were a little suppressed by playing on crappy Cincy teams forever. Career followed a normal arc where he dropped off in his mid-30s due to injury and age but was still ok. Reminds me a little of Dale Murphy, who I think should also be in the Hall.

One day, I would like to see a recruit commit by stating that they were releasing a Top 1.
My one ask, if in that situation, for NIL would be a vintage Ric Flair Nature Boy robe. Would walk to the mic. And say,

'Today, I came out, to do one thing and one thing only. You see Mean Gene, all other schools 'Woo' wish they could get this guy. Came out here to let you see the GOAT.

I wanna thank all those lesser schools. (Wooooo)..that din' make THE LIST..That's right, I'll be taking my jet fast, Bama's last, wavin' past, defense's gassed - so my school i'll be visiting is...U-T.'

Thinking about getting a new car/truck, since the one I drive now is the only truck I’ve ever had, since I was 15. Looking into either getting a Civic or Corrola if I get a sedan, or a Tacoma-colorado-silverado if I get a truck. Any recommendations or opinions on any of those?
Honda or Toyota and you really cannot go wrong. Both companies make good long lasting vehicles.
