Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Can someone convince me why many of you are rooting for osu and thus why I should? I hate them and will never forgive them for this playoffs first round game, or for losing to uga by a field goal in the cfp 2 years ago.
1st year TX in the SEC winning it all will make them unbearable. UT looks less-bad, the better OSU looks this year.

This CFB Playoff turned out to be very much like every US election these days: Choosing between a huge dooj nozzle and a huge turd sammich. If you have to pull for one of the above, it may as well be the dooj nozzle that makes UT look a bit better on the national stage.

I think we could've beat basically anyone else in the playoffs, but we got OSU at the worst possible time and place to play them. Maybe we wouldn't beat every team, but we could've given everyone else a tough game. No team was beating OSU @ OSU that night. . . similar to our game vs UGA. Hope we get a few more dudes and take everyone's lunch money next year.

You’re not wrong. But at the end of the day they whipped us. Does that not trump any consolation prize we might get?

Also, and don’t laugh, ND could beat Texas. I thought PSU would whoop them. It didn’t happen. So why couldn’t they beat Texas, who has looked mortal way more than OSU. I don’t trust ND to beat OSU as much as Texas.
IF UT had thumped OSU just as badly, would that make us bad guys? Or just doing what we were supposed to do?

I don't understand holding that against them. They did what they were supposed to do. We didn't and couldn't. Shake hands, show respect, and do better next time.

If TX thumps OSU, then it makes UT look that much more inferior to an in-conference rival we'll have to recruit against. Why on earth would we root for that extra salt in the wound? Why would we want to compound the negative effects of our loss to OSU?

Yeah I agree we would be competitive with everyone else on a neutral field. Also with a more favorable draw this place would have been more tolerable. Reality is you need a good team and some luck to win a national championship. Last 20 years neither OSU or Notre Dame would have even qualified. I believe a playoff like this is a better method to determine a champion and gives teams like us that have tough schedules a better shot than the old way. Also have no problem with those that like the old way. They just need to fix the automatic bye nonsense. If that happens we would have got a game in Neyland and likely win a game or two. As long as you’re competing for the playoffs I think you should be happy. Sports are supposed to entertain you and be enjoyable otherwise what’s the point?

Happy Saturday. Hope your weather is prettier than mine. We got sleet and mud.

January 11, 2025: As you leave the past behind, set your heart and focus on where you are now and where you are going. Grab hold of faith and hope for your future, and take your first steps in accomplishing better things. Never forget that God is with you always. John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever--the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

OSU used that $20 million dollars of NIL money very well. Kept the talent they had recruited over the years with most of the cash, then added a QB, RB and Downs at safety. Isn't that the goal of NIL keep your talent then add a few pieces through the portal?

BTW Jack Sawyer is the heart and Soul of the OSU defense not Caleb Downs...
