I mean, it kind of is lucky if his scheme is not the reason they're producing. Coming to a team where RG has everything ready for you in the DL is kind of lucky.Danny White technically hired everyone on staffā¦
But when Banks was hired as DC he had the ability to keep or hire the guys he wanted. RG was here & he kept him.
Just think saying the DC is āluckyā because part of his defense played at an elite level is kinda weird.
Banks doesnāt deserve all the credit, obviously RG & Ekeler are recruiting and training the guys upfront. But Banks isnāt Lucky because of it.
Yep. Since Ellen bought Twitter, the algorithm has been šI think a lot of people nowadays are falling victim to the algorithm.
Engage with a bunch of Vol fan rage bait... Get a bunch of Vol fan rage bait. It's a great way to get a very skewed idea of what public opinion actually is.

It doesn't mean Banks is bad, but he hasn't had to prove yet that he can out coach the other team with x/o, so the jury is still out. He walked into an elite DL room that made it impossible to be bad. Maybe lucky isn't the right word, but saying he deserves all the credit isn't either. If you put me in that booth with that DL, I'd have been serviceable as a DC. Results aren't always the best indicator of ability.
But banks didn't do anything regarding recruiting or developing the unit that made him look so good. And he certainly didn't out scheme anyone, we played ultra vanilla defense all year for the most part. So I just can't attribute that much of our success to him. They were hired 4 days apart, February 11th for RG & February 15th for Banks. And no one was claiming that 2021 DL room was elite.

ClichƩs are rarely as wise or accurate as they sound. Luck is not always where preparation meets opportunity. There is a big difference in attributing credit to RG and saying Banks is lucky though.
Thatās all Iāve been saying.
Iāve always believed
āLuck is when preparation meets opportunity.ā
Banks was prepared to be a DC when the opportunity came. He inherited a great DL coach, but he also had to recognize that and agree with keeping RG. He also had to agree with every other Defensive hire that was made. He trusted his guys and that trust has rewarded him, but thereās nothing lucky about that.

For instance, a brand new ceo takes over a fold company in January 2020. COVID happens and every single food company experiences record growth. That ceo got lucky. His results are the best the company has ever seen, but his luck had nothing to do with preparation or ability or intelligence. His results were almost entirely unrelated to him, i.e. he got lucky.
If you want to give him tons of credit for retaining one of the most well-regarded DL coaches in the country, I guess you can. But I'm giving him minimal credit for that and withholding judgment on his ability as a DC until he proves he can do more in the x/o department instead of relying on superior Jimmys and Joes. Pretty much any P4 DC in the country could have done what he's done given the circumstances he was given, so until he shows he can be better than the average DC by out scheming the other team, I'm not going to crown him an elite DC just because of the results this year.
Lol heās got it made at osu. Donāt know why heād leave. Fans can piss and moan all they want while he has the most expensive roster in college football and now pretty much guaranteed in the playoffs every year.Plot twist...no matter the outcome against ND, Ryan Day gives the OSU fans Double Gauldens and takes an NFL job.
