Yeah, I had to dig... it's a weird pension that is setup to really setup beneficiaries better than most (mine included). And with coaches that are making millions per year it inflates to some absurd payouts. So I get why most folks paying taxes in this state get annoyed by it.
Cause $86.5k a year until his death is a big chunk...if he reaches retirement age (when most folks would be eligible to even start withdrawing) he'll have already received over 2.5 million from her pension...sadly my kid won't see that kind of money LOL
Why, oh why, couldn't I be born to a highly successful coach.I got no hate for Tyler Summitt ...dont know the guy. I will say this though: his dad is a very successful (rich) banking executive, Pat made millions at UT and was said to be thrifty which she apparently left all to her only child...Tyler. he retired after working a couple years as a coach in his early 20s...
But I am flabbergasted that Pat was allowed to name her early 20s aged son as the beneficiary of her Tennessee state employees pension instead of her 60? Year old ex husband....so Tennessees pension plan is on the hook to pay Tyler $173,000 a YEAR for the rest of his life?!?! For likely 50 years or maybe even more? He may draw $10,000,000 off a pension his mommy earned? Thats like winning the powerball lottery. $250k a year for life OR X million dollars...
Thats insane. They need to close that loophole. Why would everyone NOT name their kid instead of a spouse? You would be a fool to name your husband or wife that is likely to die 20 or 30 years earlier. Never heard of that before. Thats crazy. Tyler is a trust fund baby. Lmao. I hope that with Pats dementia she never knew about Tyler knocking up his point guard while married to his childhood sweetheart. That would have hurt and shamed her.
Yea, that's some pretty 'bone-headed' decision making and makes me think Tyler was working through some things (loss of his mom?). Personally, when I taught at the college level, I was very careful about not crossing boundaries (and many presented themselves). Oh teacher, is there any way I could get a better grade?I’ve done dumb things in life for sure! Sleeping with your own player gotta be one of the dumbest mf’n things you can do.
Wonder if the name was different and you looked at just the facts how Vol fans would judge this situation:
- named HC bc of who mom was
- cheats on wife with player
- lives off mom’s pension
Feel like if this was a Bama story some of yans wouldn’t be so forgiving.
Pensions/defined-benefit plans are so complex, why most dropped them. The actuarial business is wild and managing it for thousands of people is...not ideal. Most pension plans have age restrictions, he CAN draw it now, but wouldn't get the full yearly amount.
I work for the gubment and my pension is structured to be a very small percentage if drawn on before retirement age. Even if left to my wife she would also incur a massive penalty to draw it early. I also don't think you can just name an ex-spouse as a beneficiary. If my wife and I divorced it would 100% default to my child.
Yeah just looked into this... it is a bit of an interesting loophole and lots of folks take advantage.

Also did more digging, it appears that Tyler can only get 50% of the benefits until his death. Which is still no small amount.
I’m not a Banks hater, but there were times when we looked totally lost on defense. When we had to go to zone it was atrocious and has been all 4 years. Maybe that was lack of athleticism, football iq and instincts on the players part? Much like Ellarbe, we will know in a couple of years. He lead our best unit in 2024 and largely was the catalyst for our making a playoff. It is better than meh.
It’s a normal state pension. The issue is no one ever envisioned that someone would have an average salary in the millions of dollars a year and qualify for a 30 year state pension. State pensions allow you to name a beneficiary. Your pension is affected by the age of who you choose. Most people choose their spouse but since Pat didn’t have a spouse she choose her son. It reduced what she received while alive because her beneficiary was so young. However it created a nice payment for Tyler for life. On a side note it increases each year based on CPI up to 3%.Yeah, I had to dig... it's a weird pension that is setup to really setup beneficiaries better than most (mine included). I think I’ve seen that production beforeYea, that's some pretty 'bone-headed' decision making and makes me think Tyler was working through some things (loss of his mom?). I'm going to be real........... I've never sat through more than a series or two at most of those games my entire life.No way. Now, I do not like bowl games being on Army/Navy game day.
The one this this year was better than most. Talent level was definitely higher.I'm going to be real........... I've never sat through more than a series or two at most of those games my entire life.
The pageantry and atmosphere are kind of cool I guess.......
But the game itself resembles something along the lines of JC football......
Probably an unpopular opinion but I've never found it compelling enough to watch.
If it were a Bama story, incest would be involved. You don't forgive incest.I’ve done dumb things in life for sure! Sleeping with your own player gotta be one of the dumbest mf’n things you can do.

And play call the entire offense that you are practicing! So frustrating to see that we have been practicing successfully with split back sets, and some RPO‘s that we still have not used. The progression of the team is totally dependent on the improvement of the offense. The D is fundamentally sound as is the kicking game. Time to take any limitations off and sink or swim. That means Nico has to take a big step forward and they have to play the young talent everywhere else on O.
Hardly an excuse for his behavior. Everyone looking for excuses.Yea, that's some pretty 'bone-headed' decision making and makes me think Tyler was working through some things (loss of his mom?). Way ahead of the pace of my current GOAT titleholder. Held out for Peyton until Brady willed that maddening win against the Falcons. Unlike Brady, Mahomes was completely beaten in a SB…ironically against Brady’s team.@butchna
IF MaHomes wins his 4th Super Bowl in 6 years, where would you put MaHomes is the greatest of all time category after 7 seasons?
