Recruiting Football Talk VIII

With the Banks extension being announced, has anyone checked on @InVOLuntary ?

The only counterpoint I would make is most players aren't actually being paid for their name, image, and likeness. They're being paid to play football for a school. Actual name, image, and likeness have very little to do with it. It's just a convenient work around.
Partially true yes, but the prior situation was still illegal.

It wouldn't be an issue if they were paid as the employees that they are. The unis are just dodging until they no longer can and the fans keep footing the bill.

Lady Vols are a threw together team, just imagine when the recruits get here next season. All 5* and 4* players.

This team is really overachieving but I'm here for it..

ALL 5 new girls in the 2025 class made the McDonalds All American team this year. Loaded class. CKC is gonna win a Title within 5 years. Coach Hype better hurry up or she will beat him to the Promised Land. Baseball team will be there to hold the door for both of em.....

This is the Golden Age.

Well this is quite a sight. Don't follow individual recruits like I used to, now that we're actually good again at...y'know...playing on the field, but how good are we on this WR from MS?

Pope has two receivers committed and is closing in on a third. Tristen Keys is playing in the Polynesian Bowl as a 2026 and the word off the main land is strong for the Vols.

So Ohio State bought a championship, Oregon and Miami basically buy who they want, and players constantly being recruited while at other schools. I love the NIL era, but it can't keep going on like this. Is there anything in the works to keep this reasonable, or are the highest bidders always going to rule?
The highest bidders have always ruled. Welcome to capitalism. Still better than the alternatives.

Not really. Players are not being paid for NIL. They are being played to play football. Tell what Nico does outside of football that is worth a million dollars to the company(s) that are paying him.
I'm not arguing that all of it is truly for endorsements, we all know it likely isn't. Some is, much isn't.

Either way, regardless, they had the right to be paid. Pro players can be used in the exact same way to circumvent salary caps too.

The ulterior uses of NIL don't dismiss the simple point that not allowing NIL was completely and utterly illegal. It's the reason for NIL legalization (where this discussion began). The scum ncaa and universities are now paying for it, slowly but surely. Good for the players.

The issue is pure free agency, which no other league has. Not the talent getting paid their due, which all leagues (afaik) now rightfully have.

Why I would not invest a #1 overall

That's a terrible comp for Cam Ward. He's nothing like Steve McNair. My pro comp for Cam Ward is Tony Romo. I think he'll be a good NFL QB. Not transcendent like Allen or Lamar. But a solid 10 year starter. Titans would be wise to draft him. I don't see any generational non-QB I would take over him. This isn't that great of a draft.

I've just concluded my extensive film analysis of Cam Ward.

He has the delivery of a Lefty Gomez.

The velocity of a Phil Niekro.

The smile of a Hank Aaron.

And the taste in women of a Da'Rick Rogers.
