Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Hate is a strong word. And for all cats.

I've been bitten by a neighborhood dog as a young child, chased by another on foot. Attacked a number of times. I guess that would give me reason to be dislike dogs, but I truly believe dogs and cats tend to be products of their owners or backgrounds (and sometimes their background precedes their owner, who can only do their best).

I've also owned family dogs that were the best of boys. So, I by no means hold such a view and love both cats and dogs.

From what I've seen of cat owners that grew to dislike cats, is they weren't very good people themselves, nor did they understand (or take the time to learn) how to treat a cat. They aren't blindly loyal to their owner. They are more humanlike. You have to earn their trust and love. It is different for folks that only know dogs.

In the end, cats and dogs are amazing creatures and companions. The "bad ones" likely had terrible experiences, or owners at some point, and even many of them can be taught to love again, but only by folks willing to put in the time.
Which also brings to mind some friends of ours that put under their wing a stray dog they picked up in Mexico/Baja.

He clearly had a bad past. Extremely defensive. It took years and tons of time with specialists for him to turn the corner. 5+ years so he could learn to trust outsiders. It was always sad to see, but his owners fully stood with him and cared for him. Just as he had really turned the corner, he had an unfortunate fall. He lost a leg. He has arthritis on top of it. They must spend thousands on him every year, but they've never given up on him and he's the sweetest dog ever now and is truly a good boy.

This was the 90s brotha. Dogs were just stuck outside all day and would hop their fences. All us kids riding our bikes to the Crestwood pool were just targets for the aggro dogs outs there 😅

Different times.
I grew up in the 80's. bra. We built forts, out of sticks. And dug holes, with shovels. Rode bikes, to the store. And we liked it! No roaming dogs.

He was never the best hitter. And he is a cheater. Just like Sosa, Canseco, McGuire and many others. See this is what you don’t get. The substances Bonds and others used weren’t around when Hank Aaron set the home run record. They were kit around when Ruth hit 60 home runs and drove in 158 RBIs. These substances were not around when Ty Cobb hit .400 in back to back years.

When you cheat it sullies the game of baseball. It forever tarnishes whatever you accomplished. Bonds deserves zero credit for whatever did after he started cheating. And he never deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. If Pete Rose can’t get in then neither should Bonds. Pretty sad that you have the attitude oh well because some other guys cheated donut was ok for Bonds. lol. Give me a break.
While I agree when you cheat it tarnishes your accomplishments (to a certain degree) but take away the power numbers and his plate discipline, contact, defense were still all elite. Even without steroids hes a first ballot HoF he likely just doesn’t break the HR record (he did have 2500 less AB’s than Aaron tho)

In 2018, Tony Vitello's Vols hit 42 home runs in 56 games.

This year they have hit 42 home runs in 14 games. . .
That’s a seriously crazy stat line. It’s also incredible how much the teams have improved in their hitting abilities. Combined coaching development and talent level improvements.

It will be amazing if the homers keep coming in the SEC league games. After watching the games in Houston, it’s definitely possible. 🤠

Who thinks that the home run record AND the grand slam record will both fall?

Bonds was a great player no doubt and he didn’t need PEDs to get into the Hall of Fame.

If they keep this pace, they'll hit 168 homers in 56 games 👀. Is that a record? Avg 3 home runs a game, 😂

We built a 2 foot tall maze in my backyard that had a solid roof. It was very dark in there even in bright sunlight. My best friend and I were being chased by bullies and we made it to my backyard. We both went into our closed maze. I waited until the bullies saw me go into our maze. I flipped them the bird before they got to me and crawled into the maze. They were dumb enough to follow after me. Once they were in, my friend and I covered the entrance and exit openings and it became pitch black inside. I went inside and got us drinks and snacks. We listened to them bang around, cuss, and then start crying when they couldn’t get out. We got lunch and ate while listening to their begging and pleading to let them out. They were in there for about 2 1/2 hours.
I told them that we would open the exit if they promised to never bother us again. We promised them that we would tell everyone how two smaller guys outsmarted them and how much they cried if they ever bothered us again. We opened the exit. We then went inside my house and watched until they left.
Never did like bullies. 😂😡🤠

I grew up in the country. There was always one or two neighbors down the road we carried sticks for when walking home. If on bikes we went as fast as we could. Most people let their dogs roam in the yards where I grew up.

Have you ever heard of sympathetic pain?

A dude I know got kicked in the thigh by a zebra. He stayed off the leg and when he woke up the next morning, the opposite leg was hurting in the same exact place he got kicked on the other side.

I wrecked a dirt bike once and rolled my ankle really bad. The next day my opposite ankle felt like it was the one that got rolled.

Our bodies are weird.
How the hell does someone get kicked in the thigh by a zebra?

Were you only two feet tall at the time? Or were you VietCong-ing it in some subterranean tunnels? I was having trouble picturing where you and your friend were hanging out having snacks for hours
