Recruiting Forum 90 Day Weight Loss Thread

Pee or poo before you weigh. First thing after waking up.

Not a problem. Airday.

215 two months ago. Baby due Sept 8. Trying to get below 200. Right about 208 now.

Weight training, cardio on elliptical torture device, & shifting to lower carb and light beer.

Ran and walked about 9 miles over weekend. Need to increase pace.

I joke with my wife that we're in a race to see who can have a rounder belly. So far im ahead.

A warning for the Keto peeps

Interestingly the alpha-gal syndrome is real and associated with the so called Lone Star tick. Poultry and fish would still be very much on the menu but I'd be sorely pizzed if I couldn't partake of a good beef burger or steak. (especially since I've just recently got the hang of reverse pan searing the latter)

lifters, what is your go to pre workout? Going to start taking one for the first time in about 3 years due to a carb restricted diet killing my energy level at the gym. Also work is contributing to fatigue levels. I've had some in the past that made me want to fight people, so I would like to avoid that lol.

Are you eating enough? A low carb diet makes you eat more to gain the same amount of calories for energy.

I'm still eating around 2,100 calories a day. Work has exhausted me, and I think that has more to do with it than carb cutting. I'm still eating about 75 carbs a day. I'm doing it for sugar levels and also hoping to reduce some chest and belly fat.

My advice is to first cycle the bulk of the carbs into the pre-workout or post-workout meal. Most people I know that do low carb or keto eat their carb dense meal around the workout and it helps them have good energy.

All that being said I always liked Amino Energy, didn't seem to have crazy crash or any real side effects.

What are your macros like? If you're taking in too much protein, gluconeogensis will create a metabolic response that turns the excess protein into glucose. If your primary goal with the diet is keeping blood sugar low, make sure that your macros are on point (roughly 70% of calories coming from fat, 25% from protein).

If you're suffering from keto flu make sure that you're taking in enough magnesium, potassium, and sodium. That and drinking water mixed with apple cider vinegar and lemon juice throughout the day will keep you hydrated and ward off the keto flu.

Generally, I am not a fan of pre-workouts at all. I'll drink black coffee before working out in the morning. Most PWOs are just caffeine, amino acids, creatine, and beta-alanine. You can source all of those supplements much cheaper on their own if any of those interest you. Plus lots of PWOs have lots of carbs or artificial sweeteners, which are worth staying away from while you're on keto.

I wander in and out so sorry if I don't know the backstory. Are you just trying to keep your carbs low or are you trying to actually be in ketosis? There's kind of a grey area, particularly for some people, where not getting enough carbs but not to the point of getting the benefit of being fat adapted just doesn't work well.
