I'll be much briefer than usual, especially since I have posted a lot since the game:
1. Patterson: I thought he was going to break the single game receiving yard record. Kelley Washington against LSU, 2001 IIRC (241 yards for extra credit, but that's a stab in the dark.) 219 yards and playing like it was Madden. He is unreal to watch. His highlight reel these final few games may push him too high up the draft boards to stick around.
2. Bray: Hats off! He got a huge record on a monster day. Look for him to continue to put up numbers like that, but hopefully he will still realize he is doing this against the dregs and not jump to the NFL.
3. Hunter: Big drop, but big plays. This is Justin Hunter. He got the shaft on the celebration penalty. Let the kid have some fun. He just went freak mode on a slant and deserves to go a little ham.
4. Defense Sucks: Worst showing in the history of Tennessee football. That is all.
5. Marlin Lane: Great day on a day when it took Chaney everything in his power not to throw it every single play, knowing he could cash that check for 7 points every 3 throws. 132 yards on 19 carries, 6.9 average. Also a couple of catches.
6. Offensive play calling: Many will gripe about the play calling, because 718 yards and 55 points doesn't go as far as it used to. Yes, we threw it considerably more than we ran, and for good reason. Our receivers were open like crazy, with Bray dialing up 10 separate players to share the wealth with. But don't think we didn't run the ball... 188 yards for a 6.5 ypc. I don't always agree with Chaney's play selection (1st and goal before halftime; pass, pass, run, kick for example) but the end product was sufficient.
7. Kicking: I wish we didn't have to punt, but Palardy put two within the 20. IIRC, they were actually within the 10. So well done there. Missed field goal sucked though.
8. Moving Forward: Unfortunately, much like after the Akron game, the mood on the board feels like a loss, even though we won. I personally think we win the final three games. Mizzou concerns me a bit, but I think our offense goes ham again. Vandy and KY do not scare me, though many here are shaking in their boots.
