Yes. Penny gave the mother $11,500 to move the family from Nashville to Memphis.

Penny was the coach at East, and Wiseman enrolled at East.

The TSSAA flagged it at the time and ruled Wiseman ineligible. They fought it in court, and played him anyway.
Yeah, I certainly understand it rendering him ineligible for high school competition but I’m not sure this should follow him to college ball.

Maybe I’m being charitable about it but at that point I don’t think Penny knew he was getting the Memphis job.

Anyway this whole thing feels like the NCAA clamping down on whatever they can because they’re so pissed they lost the name and likeness fight.

JMO but I think penny knew that having wiseman in his back pocket made him a much more likely candidate when that job opened up

Idk who Sam Hunt is, but sounds like he should sit in jail for awhile. Putting our Nashvillian fam in danger. Moron, not moran.

Garrett claimed that Rudolph used a racial slur just before he went after him with his helmet. He made this claim during the appeal of his suspension yesterday.

Oh. Terrible if true, but if nobody else heard anything he probably won't win his appeal I would guess. You never know how these issues will play out though.

It’s bogus. Everyone in the league knows it. It’s a tactic to put pressure on league to reduce.
Things could get interesting. If bogus, seems Rudolph could sue for defamation of character or something. Also interesting to see if MG sticks to this and reveals details.

Not to dismiss that thought but one of the main positions NCAA is focusing on is Penny's million dollar donation in 2008 for Tiger Highs sports hall of fame building. That to the NCAA made him a booster forever I ass u me !

There is a lot to unfold with your statements. I agree that it is interesting because it happened when Penny was a high school coach. My first thought was questioning that, too. But if you knew anything about the basketball situation at UM, Penny's name had been brought up when Tubby was hired. After Tubby's first year, there were people calling for his termination. So, it was very possible that a coaching search was coming up again. On top of that, Penny most likely knew that he would probably be the guy if he could deliver in recruiting. So, bringing James Wiseman to Memphis could have been a key move. When UM ultimately hired Penny, they knew he could deliver some players.

I am not even sure that Penny being a booster is what is required. Wiseman's family received an impermissible benefit because James was a great high school basketball player. From the legal perspective, I thought the lawsuit would gain a little more leverage than it did. I figured they had an agreement worked out when they withdrew the suit, but apparently that was not the case.

JMO and IMO, penny can go suck a root....born and raised Memphian and feel I deserve that thought :)

I was raised outside Memphis and watched Penny as a kid. So fun to watch. I thought it was good for him to return, but his arrogance has caught up to him. The local media loves how he is so "honest and open" and then they wonder why things like this happen.
