This is a mantra that I've heard many times in regard to Texas football players in general that they have been involved in organized football for so long but they already have mastered the positions and have reached a point where they can progress no further on their athletic ability. However I've never seen that applied to the"skill" positions much less quarterback. somebody must have had a bad case of diarrhea when they came up with the idea for that story.

Yeah, the only time saying a HS player is 'close to his ceiling' makes sense is if there's some sort of physical limitation that they've been able to make up for with great skills. So a slow WR can put up big #s in HS if he's great at catching and route running but he won't make it in college. A QB with a weak arm could be amazing in HS but not college. They won't be able to get better unless they address the underlying limitation.

Presumably, Bailey has the tools to be successful in college so I don't see how that applies here. Given how cerebral the QB position is there's no way he's close to his ceiling in high school. He could graduate from UT after a couple national titles and a Heisman trophy and he still won't be at his ceiling. Lots of room to improve and learn the game when players are this young. Especially at QB.
