I never understood that narrative from guys like Herbstreit and other ESPN blowhards.

We just didn't want a guy who was around when all that horrible stuff was happening at Penn St. He might not have been complicit but I really believe he was at best willfully ignorant, I think to say he had no idea would be naïve.

There are plenty of things Vol fans as a collective do that I can see being annoying, mostly stuff all fanbases do, but as a collective our fans nipping that hire in the bud was one of my proudest moments as a lifelong Vol. The fact that it seems to be the right football move for us is just icing on the cake.

I know that area has talent but all
I know to do is to look at the history of the recruiting at that place and it’s outside the top 60 much more than not. He deserves at least some praise to this point

Sure. Weren't discussing elite, just their class being better...so far. Elite these years is 93-94+ average. Averages are getting nuts recently with the class size limitations.

I just realized that we have already referenced the subject that caused my dislike before. This was right after the Texas Arkansas game of 1969 when the winner of the game was basically proclaimed as the NC. Paterno never stopped whining about that. Back then teams voted on their bowl game, and Paterno and Penn State decided to go to the Orange bowl because Miami is a better vacation spot than Dallas. In other words they ducked the competition.
