Man...it really was a gut punch rolling out 0-2 this year. The only silver lining I have in me is the BIG steps from week 1 to week 2, now if we take another big step from the BYU performance to this weekend...who knows man, that would be a huge upset and a big time motivator going into the bye week. Might see a pretty fired up team waiting on the Dogs too.

Either way I think people have glossed over the most glaring reason for the early woes. Only 3 returning starters on defense with a brand new DC, and the scary part is of those 3 returning starters one was still new to his position (Taylor only having a year of experience).

Ugh. This conversation has me circling back to the idea that we're just stuck with no way out. Pruitt absolutely needed those GSU and BYU games. Absolutely had to have a bowl appearance this year to keep things moving forward. 1-7 is very realistic and terrifying, because Pruitt will look like a stone cold loser to everyone in America.

Not sure where we would go from there. Roster would be only slightly better in 2020, especially if HB isn't the stud everyone thinks he is. Then we miss another bowl game, the roster is in atrocious shape, and the Dave Doerens of the world don't even return Fulmer's phone calls.
It should go without saying that we all hope that doesn’t happen, but I don’t know how Fulmer wouldn’t step in at that point.

People are misplacing his loyalty, I think. Of course he wants Pruitt to succeed. Doubly so because he handpicked him. But Phillip Fulmer’s only loyalty has been, and always will be, the University of Tennessee. He’ll do whatever he thinks would help the program.

I can't believe y'all are letting Kingston ruin this thread for a second day in a row. On Florida week. I'm out guys. Let me know when its safe to come back. I ain't got no time for trolling today.
2nd day? Ha.

I open the thread each morning knowing which 3 or 4 will already have been hard at work.
The only question being technique. Full blast insult mode or
"hey, I'm with you guys. Really like Pruitt, shame he sucks and will be fired. Everyone doing ok today?"

😂😂

Yeah, it really seems like Pruitt getting fired = Fulmer stepping in, unless Pruitt somehow stabilizes things for 4-5 years and gets fired with a decent roster built up. If it happens at the end of this season (unlikely regardless of W/L record) or next, the job may be toxic enough that Fulmer will be the only realistic person to handle it.

If that does happen, do you think Fulmer has the energy to do the job properly? i.e., adhere to a hellacious recruiting trip schedule?

The fact of the matter is Tennessee football and Tennessee basketball are polar opposites in this regard: football has higher expectations than the program warrants. Basketball has lower expectations than the program warrants.

Tennessee football is probably what, the 5th or 6th best job in the SEC? Tennessee basketball is 2nd or 3rd in the SEC.

I don't think UT has higher expectations than the football program warrants. We're one of the winningest programs in history and have won national championships under multiple coaches. It wasn't a fluke; it was our tradition. Football is underachieving and has been for a decade. We're not where we need to be or should be as a program, but lowering standards and expectations isn't the path forward. We need to raise performance and accountability to meet them. What happened last season was unfortunate, but what happened the first two games of this season is unacceptable. Fix it.

Football is the engine of UT athletics and UT is at its best when football, MBB and WBB are all succeeding. We've seen it and we have the roadmap. We just need to get back to being Tennessee. We all know that's a process... but it can upshift this weekend.

And remind you that they've said that 1000 times but neglect to mention the other 10 where they say Fulmer is about to take over. No agenda. At. All....

Wasn't a huge deal until he went out there and lied yesterday. I don't care either way but he should have just kept his mouth shut.

Yea he even deflected talking about him being a victim of a dirty play 😆 c’mon man just pipe down.

I tell my sons that it’s too exhausting to lie. Don’t bother. Because each one requires 10 more lies for that one to make sense. And now you have to remember them all.

You sound surprised? Honestly, if we finished 10-2 there would still be morons complaining about the first two losses.
no there wouldn't. and if there were, you just scrolllllllllllllllllllllllllll right on by....lol.

i'd literally be partying like it was 1999 if we won 10 games this year.

The good news is with Fulmer, Randy Boyd and Charlie Anderson at the helm, money and funding won’t be a problem going forward. We’re going to get this figured out - the only question I have is how quickly and who will be the head coach when it happens.

Obviously hope that Pruitt gets things moving in the right direction, but a coaching search with Fulmer at the helm from day one would be interesting.

I seriously question the intelligence of a person who thinks Fulmer would actually step in and coach. If that even is remotely possible then Fulmer has some serious delusions of grandeur issues. If he cares about Tennessee like we all know to be true, you can forget that as a possible outcome.

Fulmer as an interim would be better than making a terrible panic hire, ala passing over Kippy for Dooley.

I actually don't think Fulmer would do it because if things got bad enough to need an interim, he wouldn't want to be the guy getting his brains beat in every Saturday. It would be some sacrificial lamb on Pruitt's staff.
