Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

Not a whole lot of relevant UT-Florida talk in here, but I’m going to ask the question anyway. How many turnovers can we force Trask to make? I think it needs to be at least 2, and I really think that should be the expectation. I know it’s been said a lot on here that he hasn’t started since a FR in HS, but I think the bigger point is just how little football he has actually played in HS and College. He looked good against Kentucky for a quarter, but I just find it hard to believe that a guy whose played that limited amount of football can go through a whole game without some issues. If we can take advantage of them we should win.

Fulmer as an interim would be better than making a terrible panic hire, ala passing over Kippy for Dooley.

I actually don't think Fulmer would do it because if things got bad enough to need an interim, he wouldn't want to be the guy getting his brains beat in every Saturday. It would be some sacrificial lamb on Pruitt's staff.
We shouldn’t make a panic hire . If Pruitt is out we have a serious long term problem. Fulmer hasn’t coached since 2008 going 5-7. I’d prefer him to a panic hire, absolutely, but the game has passed him by. Pruitt losing his job this year is catastrophe. I’m not saying it won’t happen, but we will be in rough shape because I don’t think the university is serious about getting a sure thing hire.

Good question, I'm going with 2.

i think it's time to start another football talk thread.

this one stinks.

Yea i even think I’m done with the previous coaches, if Pruitt is the guy, and how good or bad our roster is conversations too.

If we really do get to the point where we’re 1-7 then you might as well go ahead and start over.

We can talk about the game if you all would like - but we’re much less qualified to do that than talk about the state of the program at large.

It’s not like we break down film in here or anything. It’ll just be a lot of “gotta work hard hope we win! GBO!”

Let’s see some fight out of these boys!

Man I hate Florida!

GBO !

No turnovers in our own territory, run the ball decent, and don’t give up 50 yard + plays. Then we have a chance to pull it off, no guarantee.
See @Kingston Vol, it’s not hard to talk about the game.

It should go without saying that we all hope that doesn’t happen, but I don’t know how Fulmer wouldn’t step in at that point.

People are misplacing his loyalty, I think. Of course he wants Pruitt to succeed. Doubly so because he handpicked him. But Phillip Fulmer’s only loyalty has been, and always will be, the University of Tennessee. He’ll do whatever he thinks would help the program.
Fulmer stepping in would not help the program. What coach would ever come here after that?

Pruitt will be given at least through next year to right the ship. It's not only about money, it's also about perception. Our coaching carousel has hurt our image in coaching circles. We have to make it at least look like Pruitt is getting a fair shot, and firing him in or after year two doesn't do that. Even doing it in year three is pushing it. Ultimately, Pruitt may or may not be the guy, but pulling the plug too soon, especially after the embarrassment of the last coaching search, would only hurt us more. We, as fans, need to have the common sense to realize that. If you want to call for heads, look at the administration that has painted us into this corner with bad decisions over the years. It's more than the football program that needs to be rebuilt. It's also our image if we hope to ever attract a good coach. Not to mention, a loosening of the purse strings.

We are beating Mizzou. We have two weeks to prepare for that game. Kelly Bryant is not Drew Locke.

There isn't a single game left on our schedule that is a guaranteed win.

1) KB took a team to a national title game, so he's not garbage
2) KB doesn't need to be Drew Locke to beat Tennessee.

that all sounds good, but there's a reality of "the now" that just is what it is.

we probably aren't going to beat FL.

you can't give up. the next game is not as winnable as this one. then you get MSU. then Bama. could be 2-5 after the Bama game.

things will NOT look good. it won't be any fun in here. and i'd advise all TN fans to stay off social media idefinitely at at that point, and don't watch anything to do wtih college football on ESPN....

but......you get 5 games left. all winnable....what if you win them? and you FINISH 7-5? what if you go 4-1?

i absolutely hate putting the cart before the horse here, and really hate harkening back to a season that's so far removed, it really can't matter...................but that 88 team started 0-6. they were AWFUL. and went on to win 5 straight to finish the season and won the SEC the next season.

don't see that kind of turn around next year obviously....but we literally have to take this one game at a time at this point.

there's still a lot out in front for us with only having 3 games played so far.

if there was ever a time to not get caught looking ahead, especially when things seem as dire as they do today, it's right now.

there is simply no choice to but block the noise, and only worry about the next game.

I'm a bit more optimistic than you, because I think we have to be. The stakes are high and we have to start turning this thing around. You take opportunities when you have them. Right now, we have a relatively healthy team, confidence coming off a shutout win, some SR leadership and FR who're giving full effort and believing. UF is beatable. Yes, every team is theoretically beatable, but UF sets up as well for us as we're going to get. Will the program collapse if we don't carpe diem? Probably not. But a loss would be costly.

My central point-- which is seemingly unpopular-- is that UT isn't UK, doesn't want to be UK and is coming at this from a completely different place with a different strategy. UT has invested unprecedented resources to win sooner rather than later. Right now, we have a window and full support. We need to capitalize.

By the same token, KB does not have the playmakers at Mizzou that he had at Clemson, and it remains to be seen how great Dooley is as an OC. Your second point is probably still valid.

Clemson could win nine games this year with me as their quarterback. We have two weeks to prepare so I feel confident we will get the win. I do agree with number two but I think we will get better as the year goes on.

When you say other posters... Are you talking about yourself?

I'm talking about the alums, donors, former players and parents of recruits, students, players and former players who sometimes post on this board. They post less and less. Wonder why?

It depends how the year is going i think. If we’ve won a few then sure. But if things go south i think they will stay south

Many reasons why, but to put the majority of that on Bass I think is unfair. There are gobs of posters on here who contribute to the nonsense. But, then again, it is a FREE message board on the internet that has a FREE ignore feature.
