I’ve been saying this ever since the (offensive) suggestion that we use UK as a roadmap back was broached. We have significantly better infrastructure in place than UK football. We don’t need to do it the UK way. They just happened to identified the right coach to best manage their strengths and weaknesses. We have not yet either done that in the past or verified we have done it in the present.
i'll start by saying i've never suggested that we should use UK's plan as a roadmap here. a lot of what you say here, about what our path COULD be is correct. there are built ins that could/should allow the possiblity for a faster turnaround.......

but...the rest....
again, goes back to my original point that there's a reality that we're actually in right now. you're talking about some utopian situation that just isn't in the cards for us right now. and the only way it would be is if we fired the guy we got now, and hired someone new and shiny and hoped they could do what you want them to do with the infrastructure and resources we have, in a year or two...or less.

we are not in a situation where there is a quick fix. and if this season does get worse from here, and our class comes apart, it will delay things even further.

so, if you want to find a path to being successful, then you do have to look at a) get as many blue chips as you can each cycle and b) develop the crap out of everyone you bring in.

and after some time, we'll have a football team again.

there is no year 2 championship run in our near future. probably not a year 3 one either. i don't think that's being negative or critical. at least i'm not trying to be. but in assessing the situation, i'm not sure how you can just say "go win now" and it just happen....because we're tennessee with great facilities, resources and infrastructure..............those things don't tackle, throw, catch, run, block or kick.

lol.

LSS...this is, to me, more about how to we get back to the standards of this program....given our current situation....than it is about expectations for this single season....the two kinda go hand in hand, but really.......only up to a certain point. and this season isn't over yet.

Ugh. This conversation has me circling back to the idea that we're just stuck with no way out. Pruitt absolutely needed those GSU and BYU games. Absolutely had to have a bowl appearance this year to keep things moving forward. 1-7 is very realistic and terrifying, because Pruitt will look like a stone cold loser to everyone in America.

Not sure where we would go from there. Roster would be only slightly better in 2020, especially if HB isn't the stud everyone thinks he is. Then we miss another bowl game, the roster is in atrocious shape, and the Dave Doerens of the world don't even return Fulmer's phone calls.
Brother, you’ve done enough time in the pit of despair these last few weeks. Have a dose of hope and let’s enjoy some football

Probably best to play more than 3 games before making that call.
agreed. dire as it may seem right now...it's just not over yet. we've made the margin for error razor thin...but it's not over.
1 game at a time.

So stars matter.

I was with you and it really really sucked because I liked him and what they had done. Just one more reason I despise Florida, that one game, hell that one play set us back years.
The S&C fraud was going to be exposed in a big way whether he lost that game or not.

We are not going to have a class as good as last year because of what has happened this season.
Understand the worry, but we don't know that yet.

Ignoring the home stretch for now, a team that loses the first two but wins at FL might well out-recruit a team that wins the first two but loses at FL. That's not impossible.

well, yeah. up to a point. get as many blue chippers....as you can.....it's kinda all relative right now isn't it?

we're not going to sign a UGA, Clemson, Bama level class that could instantly turn things around in a couple years.

but get however many you can.......and develop the hell out of them and the rest of the roster..........eventually there'll be a good team.........and it will be easier for a program like to TN to sustain that as recruiting would hopefully continue to get better and better......

it's just a matter of how long does it take to get to that point? and none of us knows the answer to that right now.

If I told you coaching is equal, and the turnover battle is equal, what would your score prediction be for this Saturday?
UF...because the officials ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS screw us over at least ince in that game...ALWAYS.

It is ridiculous that it ALWAYS happens and nobody ever does anything about it..

We will have to beat UF and the officials to win.

yeah, i'll never feel bad for Dallas Baker in that 04 game. never.

You mean like FL committing pass interference on every play. Like bammer holds on every snap. Like that? Never noticed.

This weekend is about confidence and hope moving forward.

Losing the first 2 weeks shook any confidence and hope that everyone had.

Winning this weekend makes us able to say with some confidence that Georgia State was a fluke and a valuable lesson learned by everyone in the program. Winning this weekend makes us able to say that we should have beaten BYU but didn't finish the job and it looks like BYU isn't a horrible team either. Winning this weekend shows that apart from significant injuries that UT can play with or beat anyone left on the schedule not named Georgia or Alabama. The bowl berth is still a very real possibility.

Losing this weekend potentially saps any confidence and hope left and it makes a 1-7 start or a 2-10 finish seem very realistic.

This program needs something to happen to help it believe again in what's ahead. While I don't think it's wise to say a coach is defined by a single game, the truth is the start of this season has somewhat backed Pruitt into a corner and this game may end up being a career defining game for him as Tennessee's coach. Win the game and I think the bowl berth does happen. Lose the game and I don't see it.

I'm hoping for hope.

I'm just not confident I'll get it.
The BYU game by itself proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that GState was a fluke..

It was an OJT mistake that I believe will never happen again, and it is too bad that it happened. If we had taken the game seriously at all, we would have blown them out just like we did the Mocs...period.
