Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

I was talking to a coworker today who is a Louisville grad. We often discuss football and b-ball. I didn’t realize it but this was in earshot of a UGA fan.

I said, “Yep, it looks like we’re about to sign what could be the greatest class in our history.”

The UGA fan perked up and with evident despair and anger said, “Wait, what?”

I said, “Yes we may land another 5 star in this class. Would be our best ever.”

He was frustrated and said, “Can’t be. Wait, you guys are talking b-ball lol never mind.”

This is how much we are still hated. Even for a split second this guy thought we had a great football class coming in and he was visibly mad.

A few minutes later the Louisville grad said, “You know, you guys have had much more b-ball success over the last 15 years. It really seems like you’re a b-ball school.”

I told him that I’m fine with that now and ready to ride that wave to oblivion.

I think you have a national title or you’re ass mindset. Don’t take for granted a ton of success just bc you didn’t win a ring.
No...much like Mehlan..I think he us a good coach, but he has proven beyond a shadow of any doubt...whatsoever...at all...zero...zilch..nada...none..

That he absolutely was not, and is absolutely never going to be a championship coach...ever...ever...ever..

I don't think he is ass, but I don't believe for a damnable second that he would "kill it" at Tennessee., but I guess that depends on your definition of "killing it" is.

Just like I have said a million times about Mehlan...Mehrk Richt is a good coach and he would do...OK...at UT, or at least I think he would have a long time ago...I believe he is a washed up has been now, and will remain that way.

All that freakin unbelievable talent, fir all those years..and nothing to show for it...

It's salty in here the last few weeks so I'm telling you upfront I'm not arguing with you haha but......

I think it depends on your definition of "kill it" as compared to what we need right now. I think we need someone to pull us out of the ditch and get us back driving down the road. I thi k he could be successful at that. I dont think he would come here, turn the program around, and win nattys. But I'd rather take him then take a chance on another up and comer. JMO

I sorta agree with you, but I sorta don't...I mean if you are just wanting stabilization, he might be able to something in that regard..I say "might" because I don't really believe he has anything left in the tank to offer other than a old name..

At least a up and comer would have potential...hell I still think JP has it in him to be great. If he could catch, or better yet..make..a few breaks, he could really turn this around.

He had good talent, but like ~6th or 7th in average talent. Close to Auburn, Michigan in team talent. Not sure enough that he should have ever won a natty. Maybe the sec, which I guess he did twice. I think he's a fine coach, but like you, he isn't close to a homerun and is probably past his peak. He could never recruit the dirty way you have to in the SEC to get to the next level and his Xs and Os weren't anything special. He just brings you solid stability, but we want something special. We haven't been through a decade of hell to be 2nd or 3rd best.

There were years he had great talent at all levels of offense and defense...he should have won a NC.
