I don’t really have any skin in the Norvell discussion either other than living in Memphis. He was probably the best recruiter in Memphis history and seemed to scheme his offense very well. My one concern was always him hiring a competent DC at the P5 level. It doesn’t always translate to a high level job, but I would guess he is at least better than Taggert.

I believe we pull off at least 1, and I'm leaning more towards a W at UGA in November. Which 2 are you betting on?
i think that one, bein the last one of the 4, is just a hard one to call right now. at that point in the season....it could be a huge game...or not....maybe UGA underwhelms and they seem gettable? maybe we're not anywhere near as good as we thinkg and have lost all 3 other big games? or maybe we're both on a roll and we've already won 1 or 2 of the big ones and it sets up a HUGE November game....? so no way to really pick that one for me.

so if i had to pick a couple...i'd say UF and Bama. both at home. UF is a tad later on the schedule and we'll have a pretty good idea of where we're at. of course, should we screw up and win the OU game.......well.....................could get exciting real quick.

bama, and this is the only reason i point to that game, is going to be playing their 8th straight i think when they come to town, and we'll be fresh off a bye....

Great picture of Reggie. My mom worked about 20 yrs at Howard Elementary and High School as secretary. She watched Reggie grow up from a young kid to high school and she knew him well. There was actually another Howard High kid who signed with Tennessee with Reggie White but I can't remember his name and who might have been more talented then Reggie but he quit right after the Bama game after Coach Majors said something during an interview he didn't like and flat out quit and threw away his career. Anybody remember his name?

I'm from Chattanooga and watched him play and then he came back to my high school and spoke to the student body...

i tend to agree on the "coaching" but if you go in to a Florida program and you turn off FL high schools........that's a problem. Taggert was supposedly going to be a recruiting god down there....that didn't work out. so there's already a bad taste about FSU in some circles.....FSU has a lot of very similar problems from an administration and infrastructure standpoint that we have had the past decade....the one thing that was a difference between us and htem is they were able to get something out of Jimbo, and the fertile recruitng base can keep them competitive.

you turn off the recruiting base....then that's bad. FL prospects have options.....

I agree, and along those lines, I wonder if he is having trouble dealing with past problems and relationship issues.

i would guess yes. whether he created them or not, doesn't change the fact they exist. probably not all that dissimilar from what we've had to do here as a result of the kiffin, dooley and jones experiments.........to say pruitt had/has an up hill climb on that front is probably an understatement. to his credit, and fulmer's, i think they've done good work in repairing a lot of those issues by now.

so if Mike is going to have any shot at it, it'll take some time, and it'll likely take somethings happening above his head to really reinforce the message he may be pushing. until then, he's probably pushing rope in a lot of ways.

they'll still get talent, there's just too much of it down there, and too many of those kids that just "want" to go to FSU....but they aren't getting back to FSU national championship levels tomorrow.....way too much competition now on the trail, with too many other really good options.

The game is a mess...I understand and appreciate empowering young folk...but pubicly calling out head coach. Yikes!

Have a come to jesus meeting....then, hit reser button. Wouldnt put up with that ****.
Head coaches need to stop being duplicitous...maybe with this, they will avoid a Butch situation and maybe if some Vols had the courage to do that during Butch time🤔

The powers that be down there made a big show and got a lot of play from other fanbases of not accepting mediocrity. Remember posters on this board praising them for cutting bait despite the pricetag. All that to hire Norvell. It’s why when things seem irredeemably bad (like after our first two games last season) that the decision makers be more like Fulmer. More perspective less “fire his azz NOW” message board mentality. You don’t get extra credit for firing your guy first with no idea of the replacement. Taggart was a crap show, but Coach Interim didn’t land any recruits or score any wins that wouldn’t have signed with the guy that had put in a season and few games into the next.

I would be shocked if we don't, my bet is on 2.

Yup. My money is on OU and UGA. Losses to Florida and Bama. I realize OU and UGA are road games, vs FLorida and Bama at home, but here is my reasoning:

OU lost quite a bit and has a new QB, who will be starting his first meaningful game with all his top WR's out. And he doesn't have the benefit of spring practice running the 1st team offense.

UGA's offense wasn't so hot last year even with Fromm and Swift leading the charge. Now they are gone, and I doubt they're going to get much better production from Newman and whatever RB takes over for Swift. USCjr. beat them last year at UGA, using 2 back up QBs. Also, by the end of the year we were a much better team than the one that got curb stomped by UGA early in the year. I think playing late in the year actually benefits us, as we will know who our Top QB is by that point, giving us the best chance for a W.

agreed. has a very "mike hamilton" feel to it...lol.

Corner36 (Buck) has called Norvell a bad hire for awhile. Compared him to Butch Jones. Said he’s messing up badly on the recruiting trail in FL HS’s. Norvell won’t be there much longer. Multiple bad hires in a row for FSU. Sounds all too familiar. Hopefully their next hire is much better and helps make that conference more competitive.
if Pruitt continues an upward trajectory here i wonder where all his name will be mentioned. Maybe FSU? I also wonder how long it will take for some of our young coaches to be considered for job openings. FSU probably won't come calling, but you gotta think somebody will come after Moose, Tee, Felton for Coordinator positions sooner or later.

uf also got a lot of run about "not accepting mediocrity" for having the gumption to fire zook and mcelwain with a quickness.

granted, they did ok on the meyer hire...lol. which i'll give them credit for. i don't think zook was all that great, and probably would have been fired at some point no matter what. but i did like the fact that they seemd to have their guy in Meyer, and went and got him....like the old saying, you don't want to be the man that follows "the man". zook was that guy.

but since meyer's been gone, i'd say it's least in the TBD stages on the aftermath, with one attempt in the books already.....

i'm interested to see what happens this year with them....expectations rising fast for the gators this season. if mullen doesn't deliver, wonder how restless they get. Mcelwain at least got them to the conf title game twice and he didn't last......how does Mullen fare headed in to year 4 w/nothing to show for it? im hoping to contribute to that angst this season.

while i won't necessarily buy in to the hype that some tweeters have put out there....JT Daniels changes things for UGA's prospects on offense. that's another reason i'm leaning less towards UGA being one of the 4. it was already gonna be a tough one regardless. they may have found a solution with JTD at the helm?

but yeah, typically, i agree on playing these types of teams later in the year....just not sure it's gonna be the case for this season. which i find ironic. lol.

I’m not saying they’re going to fire him now. But it seems likely to happen sooner than later due to how badly he’s messing up behind the scenes, particularly in recruiting. Apparently many HS’s in FL, that were feeder schools for FSU, have already written him off. And now his current players are blasting him on social media and are refusing to practice? He’ll have to do major damage control or he might be gone real soon.
No question on the damage control. I really hope he does well there to damage Florida most of all. We need them and Miami recruiting away from Florida. Then both of them go do damage to Clemson.

Aftermath of all that? They got their third choice. First was Chip Kelly, second was Scott Frost. Mullen was always going to wait for that job before accepting another.
