You got to read a D as a QB and not allow a blindside hit. However, he didn’t get blasted every time he fumbled. He was moving around on two of them and not protecting the ball. No excuse to fumble as a QB. Protect my football or go sit. We didn’t lose because of Guarantano but it should’ve been a two score game. If we can’t attack the middle of the field with slants and seem routes and some quick outs with him, then get me someone who will sling it. JT or Mauer will sling it and I would rather have a couple of interceptions 30 yards downfield than fumbles behind the LOS and be able to loosen up a D where I can run. We need a change and JG would be a great back up for the next couple of years if an injury occurred.

You think us being 4th right now is too high? I would actually agree, but we play the teams closest to us (UF, A&M, Arkansas, and Auburn...I believe Ole Miss will fall) so we will know exactly where we stand by the end of the season.

It’s because our QB can’t be trusted to use the entire field.

I don't think that is always the case if you have your own elite defense and you have elite players on offense around the QB. Up until recenty, Bama typically had game managers at QB and were still winning NCs. What you have to have is a QB that can get the ball in the hands of his playmakers, can make smart decisions, and not turn the ball over.

Now I will say that if the other team has an elite defense and an elite offense with an elite QB, then you are in trouble. :)

A question for Pruitt- when is it acceptable to hold JG accountable?

I don’t care how good your OL is there will be times when the defense gets to the QB. At that point it’s on the QB to ensure, at the very least, that the football is protected. JG has shown consistently over 5 years that he can’t accomplish this.

Why is he still playing? If he’s playing because the other guys aren’t ready or aren’t good enough, why did you recruit them? Why aren’t you developing them?

BTW, I thought Arkansas got screwed big time. When I saw Nix turn and spike the ball I said immediately that it should be a fumble. I did not hear an official explanation of the review ruling, but if I was an Arkansas fan I would be furious as to why it was not a lost fumble, since an Arkansas player smartly dove on the ball once Nix spiked it.

This Vols are improving, and if you're a Tennessee fan, you've seen reason for optimism going forward. Even if the idea the team was ready to compete with the elite of the SEC was put to rest in Athens, this defense appears legit.

The offense could use some work. In my mind, Tennessee is in a similar position to where Texas A&M is in the SEC West. The roster is more talented and things are trending in the right direction, but the Vols need a difference-maker at the QB position before they take that final step. Jarrett Guarantano looked like he could be that guy in the first half, completing 11 of his 13 passes for two touchdowns. But he was horrific in the second half as a turnover machine. He fumbled three times and threw a pick, and it killed any chance that Tennessee had of pulling off this upset.

The chance to pull it off was there. The fact they had the lead at halftime despite not playing particularly well was something they couldn't take advantage of as Guarantano quite literally gave the game away."

Is there a chance that UGA's DL is just all-time good? I'm hoping that's the case. We need our OL to actually be a major strength and we just had the misfortune of running up against one of the best SEC DLs in recent memory. If our OL is severely overrated we may struggle to get to 5-5.

That was UGA's gameplan from the beginning. Shut down the run and force us to throw. The upsetting thing is that UGA was getting pass rush easily with only 4 down lineman. Penalties also destroyed our drive. constantly forced us to throw on long 3rd down situations.
