No maybe to it. He has to recognize blitzes and know how to exploit them. Really good QBs want you to blitz because they know that you're weak somewhere because of it and can exploit it for big plays.
The int play if he had thrown it to the rb when he saw the blitz it would've gone for a first down and more. Instead he holds onto the ball and makes a stupid throw

That's part of his problem imo. He can't read a defense. He gets set and looks to the sideline for the check.
So. If the argument for playing JG is he can get us in the best play the most. But your running an offense that checks to the sideline every play. Doesn't that nullify the argument? So then what upside does he give?

I could be wrong but i havent seen him change anything at the line that wasn’t signaled in all year

Maybe someone can discredit that but I don’t recall a single play
Doesn't that speak volumes? A fifth year senior should be able to read a defense and y check out of something that's going to get blown up.

Thing is he was looking at the runnung back. Saw the corner 15 yards away. Got spooked. Panicked and then just threw something

You can't see the big picture because JG's manhood is blocking your view. I think if Bazelak was in last night he would be running for his life, too. The difference is he would have gotten away more often. JG is a fifth year senior and still has zero pocket presence, virtually no escapability, and cant recognize where a blitz is coming from. And, he still relies on the sidelines to read a defense.

As a team we ran the ball 27 times for -1 yards. But you think if we had BAzelak then he would somehow be able to avoid pressure and make plays?????? You see how stupid that sounds? If our whole damn team can’t get away from GA pressure and defenders than hot the *** is Connor bazelak gonna do it?

To put it more into perspective, bazelak rushed for 3 yards on 6 carries. He was sacked once while also fumbling once. On top of that LSU had 8 tfl. But bazelak is supposed to be able to get out of GA defenders way and avoid sacks while also make plays better than JG?? GTFOH

The staff is looking at yesterday as a one off and not something they believe to be an every week occurrence with the offensive line. The Vols are 2-1 and not 1-2 or 0-3. They aren’t happy but the sky isn’t falling. Georgia is just that good up front. If Tennessee eventually made a QB change, it would be Shrout as Bailey is no where close to being ready and Maurer can’t keep himself ahead of the chains in practice or in the meeting room. The ability to move and be elusive and yet still throw it well is something the staff is looking forward to with Salter and potentially Simpson if they can land him.

Tonight is a big night with several offensive playmakers expected to be showcased to see where they are. Calloway and Holiday missed due to Covid situations in fall camp. Wideman missed basically a month with two bouts of contact tracing. The staff wants more speed on the field but they didn’t want to throw them out until they know they can handle it and they hadn’t been able to see enough to this point due to all that.

Dee Beckwith is gonna get some run tonight as Tennessee looks for added playmakers at running back.

Shamburger and Emerson played poorly yesterday. Alontae struggled with simple concept things that shouldn’t still be effecting him.

Sounds like Bailey is going to get passed up when those guys get here.

I'm only speculating but I would guess the coaches feel like he is prone to less mistakes. Until last night he hasn't really made many huge mistakes. I agree with Pruitt that putting in a backup last night wouldn't have made much a difference. Would have been nice to have had the opportunity to play one of Shrout or Mauer before last night. That's where not having some warm up games have really hurt us.

I think JG starts bc of experience and knowledge and bc the coaches think he is the least likely QB to turn the ball over.

It’s a much too conservative way to think on O in today’s college football. Maurer slings it around and is prone to more mistakes but that dude brings energy and moxie to the game and this is a game of momentum.

I think Pruitt prob thought we weren’t good enough previously to play any other QB bc we couldn’t survive turnovers. But now, the D is much improved. I love JG’s heart but I’d insert Maurer into the lineup and see if he can make plays. Risk/reward. I’d take the risk.

**none of this has anything to do with the game against UGA. This is just overall my feelings on how we take the next step. Gotta find the QB who makes the difference. Could be BM. Could be Shrout. Could be Bailey. But gotta find them**

Those really good QBs also have a RB who can pass block worth a damn for them also. And if an offensive coordinator doesn’t call a play that gives you a quick developing route then your ish out of luck. Chaney has to give Jg those quick hitches, slants, screens, etc to give him a chance when Ga starts dialing up blitzes like it’s NFL blitz 2000

Weak links on teams don’t have undivided support from all their teammates/coaches

JG does

I trust this team and their coaches. Their in trenches everyday together and they know who’s the best at every position whether we agree with it or not.
Do you really think the coaches would let it out if players wanted someone else? I get that you obviously have some invested interested in JG. Probably a family member. That is fine. I love his heart and grit. He just doesn’t have the talent to be the QB at UT. He is the reason we are always in close games most of the time and why we can’t bridge the gap between our main rivals.

Do you know how stupid (borrowing your term, thanks) you sound? Do you seriously not think Bazelak is more athletic than JG? Did you not watch him scramble against us? Did you not see where we pressured him and he escaped and threw the ball accurately down field?

Not making an excuse. TERRIBLE THROW. But if you look close JG wanted to get rid of it quicker. Unfortunately Gray wasn’t looking for it then he doubled down on it buy throwing it anyway. TERRIBLE decision.

Nothing worth noting out of the JP show thus far, they just finished the 3rd qtr. He's pointed out both the good and bad plays.

He did say on the TD that put them up to 30 we were in man coverage and "I don't care if your man goes to the bathroom you stay with him".

Going into the 4th qtr he seems pleased overall with the D. Says we could make a few subs and be really good.

We need to get off blockers.

On the long pass they made with 11 minutes to go he says he made a bad call.

Bob asked what the message was after going down two scores and he said there shouldn't be a message they know the score go out and make plays.

Of course he's disappointed on them stopping us on the 3rd and 4th yard plays where we didn't get the first down.

Message to team we had guys play hard and we made some technical mistakes. Some of that is coaching and some of it execution.

We win together and lose together.

He's mentioning a lot of the younger players didn't get much practice because of quarantine and it's not their fault. The Sunday scrimmages will remedy some of that.

Going to give us fits the next 3 seasons. Mizzou always seems to find and develop good QBs.

Its frankly time to upgrade the OC. Chaney’s schemes are ok and his running schemes are terrible. Time for a next generation OC.
We got out talented. And, we gave up in 2nd quarter. They punched us in the nuts and we collapsed. That's on Pruitt.

We rely too much on JG. His lack of progression is on Chaney. Lack of offensive game plan is on Chaney. He had a bad game.

The second JG starts this wormburner ****, its time to realize the future aint here. it does no good to continue to give him more reps, we know what we've got.

Let him ride the pine and find his chi, then being em back when he's had a chance to swe what the D is doing. Its obvious the offense sees him sulking and reacts.

I have no doubt these coaches will have this team ready. They just cant put their eggs in JG basket any longer, move on.

Gave you a like bc I’m on board with Bazelak.

As for Chaney, I think a QB who is less risk averse and will take chances could make our O scheme look a lot different.

Although after watching the creativity of Kiffin/Jeff Lebby play designs and calls against Bama, I absolutely found myself wanting more of that. But it should be noted that Matt Corral slings it. Not afraid to make mistakes and he makes a lot of plays with his legs. I think so much of “how we look” on offense is determined by QB play. Even if it’s not necessarily bad, some QB’s are more conservative than others. To take the next step we need an aggressive minded QB.

Is Maurer healthy though? He was battling hamstring problems this fall and those like to linger

Wow you missed the MSU game yesterday

vs Ga
nix 21/41 0 TDs 1int 177 yards

Franks 19/36 1 TD 2 Int 200 yards

JG 23/36 2 TDs 1 INT 215 yards

interesting how fans only see the flaws in their own
You need to add the two lost fumbles, but I agree, no QB has done any better against Georgia so far this year.

I'm still confused as to why someone else didn't get snaps in that Mizzou game.

I'm not giving up on JG yet. I think he should start against UK. We can't call a game to protect JG against more avg SEC teams cause it gets us crushed against good teams. If he can't handle an open playbook against UK it's time to move on. We are not good enough at running to be one dimensional when we have play makers at WR
