It seems to me that 5-star recruits would be even that much more likely to go to the Alabama's and Clemson's of the world if those teams' elite players continue to hop to the NFL early while players at other schools are sticking around for 5-6 years.

They will either way, but I think the idea is a team full of old arse 4*s will have a better chance than in the past against them. As 2nd and 3rd tier teams succeed more vs the teams playing 18-20 YO 5*s, it could be a critical period of disruption.

We need to take advantage and place ourselves in a position for the future. Seems like the worst possible time to change staff, have transfers, etc. Hold onto older players the next 2-3 years and we could move up the pecking order.

Or give more PT to our seniors for their eventual return? JG already guaranteed his return with Kennedy and Chandler to lead the offense. Sham and Solon Page to lead the defense.

True. I wonder if we should have went after him instead of Chaney.

I thought he was the homerun hire at the time. OSU guy next, Lebby seemed the riskiest but also from the Art Briles tree. Chaney was the safest and maybe the best "fit" being older and experienced.

Apparently (word on either VQ or 247) CJP did not like Briles not having a standard "playbook". I believe that school of offensive guys only keep a special playbook for trick/unusual plays. Otherwise, it is just a simple set of plays that then have a lot of optionality built into them...or in the Leach school of thought, "just throw to the open space".

This wasn't heard anywhere, but I also wonder if the Briles school of practice style bothered him too. Those guys favor max repetitions and practicing at game speed.

But if Chaney Y3 with new QBs is still low scoring, I hope CJP goes max dynamic hire for replacement.

You may be right Bruin! I hope he’s not trying to micro manage every position coach(what I mean is I hope he’s not overriding their every decision) I’ve seen CEO’s micromanage, it makes bosses crazy

was in middle management. had a quota of mandatory coachings, 1 positive 3 negative a day. Had trainings on how to coach.

Adults arent infants.

Honestly hard to say as fans. My opinion of him was just that he needs a ton of talent to succeed. Well so far he's only had JG and Maurer struggled to score last year. HB and KS could change that...but I still think some other OCs could do more regardless.

I don't think CJP is overriding Chaney fwiw. I think he DID to Helton. That was no way the Brohm style of offense he learned under.

Great post on ToS - I think this could be a 3-4 year thing with all players getting an extra year and teams generally being older and more experienced to level the playing field...can we take advantage? Let's hope this moves us up in the pecking order. More reason to hold onto the current staff a few more years.

85 is still the limit unless they remove that too so even if Kennedy, JG, Cimaglia or any other seniors try to come back they won’t have spots.

Love OBX! We always stay in corolla, last summer was 8 miles up from the hard road. Too bad they closed all the back trails off tho.

If that's their plan, then so be it.

Pruitt gets 5 years, if they lack clarevoyance & miss the forest for the trees. That is an indictment. And, 5 years becomes 4.

This team has talent. Got to prepare
these younger players, incl QB, for the future.

As fans we can look at it this way and be ok with..but unfortunately recruits don’t and when we start to lose recruits this forum will go up in flames

Next year the limit is basically increased insofar as returning seniors won't count toward it...so a lot of teams will have 90 or 100 or whatever scholarship players. Returning seniors will have spots.

What happens after next year has not been determined yet, but I think they will have to temporarily increase the limit to a degree. Otherwise rosters will hit a cliff and teams will either have to push a bunch of players out or take a lot fewer recruits all at once. That could get ugly and look bad. We'll see.

Ladies and Gents....I need some prayer for my Mother In Law. She had a really bad migraine this morning that was causing her to vomit. She went to the emergency room and they ran a bunch of xrays and test and found that she has a brain hemorrhage in the back of her head. She is in ICU right now.

Oh man, sending prayers your way. Hope there's some way they can relieve the pressure and start the healing process.

Both went straight from WR coach directly to being an FBS HC. Riley started as a WR coach too...is there something to that? Lol. Kendal started at WR too

I will for sure be upset if JG starts. Their defense will shut him down and we will be going into the game with one hand tied behind our back. This team needs a change and something to rejuvenate them. They have not played hard since the fourth quarter of the UGA game and it is a direct reflection of the QB being terrible. Good luck with fan support if we trot JG out and lose to Arkansas.

That’s what’s so mind boggling to me is Pruitt came here and vowed to play smash mouth football.establishing the run game with results.how does he expect it to be effective with the box loaded when JG is QB? We are literally one dimensional with him...as a OC and HC how do you not see what defenses are obviously playing?...you get paid millions of dollars but can’t even see that defenses are basically saying your starting qb will have to beat us with his arm.no team in the sec respects Jarrett as a runner or passer.the Oline can push people around but not the DL’s and all LB’s as well not even factoring in corner blitzes

While this is true that LSU game made hill a boatload of $.
The nfl wants backs that can be weapons in the passing game and that game showed he can be a stud there

The thing about those two is they were both WR coaches, neither was ever an OC before they became HC. They were really good recruiters and good position coaches. Orgeron was thr same way and Pittman seems to be off to a good start at Arkansas. The next of those guys may just be on a staff somewhere with the reputation of a good recruiter and position coach.

JG has taken his lumps, taken sh*t from fans. By all accounts he works his butt off. It’s not like the dude isn’t trying. He just ain’t the guy.

Another interesting note from the pod - they all think Carvin or Cade should be playing center and not Kennedy.

Kennedy has not gotten any better since he got here afaik

We would get raked over the coals for hiring Kendal Briles after raising a stink about Schiano, but we'd win some ball games.

If push comes to shove, that's a gamble we should be able to take. I doubt he's gonna become available anytime soon unless someone has really deep pockets. With every school losing millions of dollars with this pandemic, I don't think he'll be going anywhere.
