The fact that as a Program we bring in as much money as anyone and instead of discussing meaningful football (which we might get to be in a meaningful game 3 times every 5 years) we discuss coaching searches. I don't care if it's money or morals. Neither should ever hold us back. It aggravates me and I'm starting to realize how dumb I am for caring.
i dont' disagree. and the money side of things for butch and fulmer, imo, were both agenda driven decisions. it's not like we didn't have the money....we just weren't gonna give it.

anyway...it's pretty well documented what we've done wrong the past 12 years as an organizaiton....lol.

Why in the world some of these prominent boosters don’t want to win is beyond me. We could have had Freeze as OC and was cleared by the President, yet a booster was able to nix it?? Unreal if true. Looks like we still aren’t all rowing in the same direction on the hill. We will continue to not be able to take the next step if this is all true.

If their donations big enough all they have to do is threaten to pull it and they pretty much get what they want.

Im still very much in the Fulmer needs to be the AD boat.

Oh, I think morals should play some part. Just only to a certain degree. The fanbase fought back against Shiano, and part of it was for morality. I don't just want anyone to be a coach at my university because I think there are great coaches who are relatively good people. However, I probably wouldn't hire Hugh Freeze as HC but would certainly entertain him as OC.

In the past sure, but no one can call us cheap under Fulmer. We just made CRB a top 5 paid coach and CJP was able to pay crazy amounts for Chaney, Ansley, Tee and so on. We certainly haven't been cheap the past couple years.

Should have hired Freeze for OC anyway then we’d have our coach in waiting.

Then Tennessee loses millions because I can almost bet whomever it was he was not alone in saying it.
Tennessee cant upgrade the facilities nor hire better staff should the need arise.
Its the a snow ball effect

It's a power thing.
Similar to Goldfinger in the old 007 movie. He wanted to blow up the gold in Ft. Knox so his gold would be worth more.

When Tennessee is bad, these mega boosters are the bulk of the Athletic Department's revenue. Their donations are necessary. When the Vols are good, income across the board is up. Ticket sales, merchandise sales, corporate sponsorships, lower level donations all go up and make the mega boosters less powerful.

ehh, Fulmer was pushed into a corner with RB. He was either going to pay and get criticized or let him walk and get criticized.
While things in the football program are not where we all want them to be Fulmer did what weve all been asking for years and paid good coaches to come to Tennessee.

eh. i didn't even know Schiano was on the PSU Staff.

i just thought it was a s**t hire and was glad people were pissed about it.

...sure once you found out about the PSU deal, loosely connect the dots there, and bing bango bongo......"morally justified".

Exactly so if booster X does not want Freeze hes gonna get his way one way or another. The university is in no way able to say yea screw you.
There should just be a frank discussion with how things need to be run in order for us to be successful. They have to know that EVERYONE, even the AD himself, has to step back and let the HC run his ship...otherwise why did we hire and pay him?

Dan Harralson was just on Basilio. He said that people think, myself included, that the job is too big for Pruitt. Dan disagreed and said that he believes Pruitt is too big for the job. That he’s not getting the type of support he expects.

For example, Pruitt wanted Hugh Freeze and it was supported by Boyd but shot down by a prominent booster. Pruitt also wanted Lance Thompson and Probst but those were shot down too. In order for Pruitt to be successful he needs more support to hire the types of coaches he wants much like the support Saban has at Alabama.

Other notes, Harralson believes Chaney is much higher on Salters who will arrive in Jan and likely be fast tracked to a real opportunity to start. Arkansas is a bad matchup for us. Pruitt’s first recruiting class is really hurting us but it’s not Pruitt’s fault there just wasn’t enough time.
I believe Pruitt wanted Freeze and I believe someone has an axe to grind. My gues would be the HOH since Pruitt wasn't his guy. But what this sounds like to me are there are plenty in the admin who are fine with a 7-9 win team and just asking their piece of the pie and being done with it

Ive wanted that for years just like everyone else but we all know with money comes power or the thought that you have power to influence anything and everything.
Way to many hands in the cookie jar at Tennessee and its been that way for what 15 years or better?

Sure, I didn't like the hire either, and I know people claim that our fanbase hid behind the argument about him being at PSU. But the reports about Schiano being on staff had come out within the previous 1-2 years of Currie trying to hire him. That stuff was out there. I said it at the time, that if there is just an inference or a possibility that it happened, you can't hire him. This wasn't a constitutional right; it was a job offer. That's what makes it more puzzling that Currie was trying to do it.

college football at this level is an arms race. you're either in, or out....

we've dipped our toe in to the shallow end of the pool....i'm ready to go full triple lindy......

Tennessee will never put a man at HC or any other position that has a track record.
Saban has that pull because hes done a lot and no one is going to say no.
Pruitt needs to beat one of the important 3 desperately to start getting folks to talk about that.

that's fine. and i'm sure there were plenty of people that did know about that history.

i'm willing to bet the folks that were defacing the rock and making all these outlandish claims on twitter etc...had no clue....and did hide behind it.

and hey, im not mad about it lol.............it was a great out, for those of us that werne't completely aware. :)

To Alabama’s credit, they hired Saban and let him run the show. Very few programs do it.
