Can we all get together and agree that the time to extend coaches is AFTER they have achieved something of value. Can you not just pay them more for remaining years as a reward for milestones short of whatever the goal is?

Losing a guy because you didn't extend him is 1000% better than not being able to replace an underperformer because you've mortgaged the house to keep him from looking elsewhere.

At this point I would still say that Pruitt deserves full support and the speculation about his firing is premature. However, he didn't deserve an extension.
We don’t live in that world. They didn’t extend him to keep someone else from hiring him. They extended him to help with recruiting. Other teams were telling recruits that we aren’t committed to Pruitt. The extension stops that. It’s just the way it is now

FL fired Zook in his 3rd season to grab Meyer - brilliant move.
FL fired Shark Boy in his 3rd season to get Mullen - looking very smart.
UGA fired Mr. 10-Wins Richt to get the guy they wanted - made NC game already.
BAMA fired Shula after 3 years for Saban.
Matt Luke was kicked to the curb by his Alma Mater because they didn’t want to miss out on Kiffin.

Coaches don’t always get a fair shake. It’s a matter of doing what needs to be done in order get where you want to be. Requirement #1 though - UT has to actually want to be a top football school.

Anybody else frustrated at hearing this is a 5 year rebuild? B.S.. Bring the right guy in and this thing gets turned around quick. Freeze would have us beating everybody we should by next year and competing with everyone we shouldn't beat, possibly even pulling an upset.

Think about it. Imagine Freeze running his offense against GA this year. I think we are up by more than one score at halftime and probably pull the win out. I also think Bailey is playing instead of JG and Hyatt and company are putting up stupid numbers for freshmen.

Freeze needs to happen. It just does.
I know it takes time to get your players in and cycle out the previous coaches players but where i struggle is how does Arkansas go form 0-20 in the SEC to winning 3 games this year? I realize with Butch, Pruitt had to undo alot from a mental and physical standpoint but our roster is better than theirs. Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love to have Freeze but he is not the only answer. What would have been VolNation's response if we hired Pittman? He may not be the greatest but he hired excellent coordinators and let's them coach and do their job.

I would be fine with a 5-yr rebuild if that is the only option. It isn’t. There’s a path out and the opportunity to take it is available.

We must take it.
when are we starting the rebuild clock this time?

if we fire the current coach and hire a new one, the clock starts over, right? so 3 years for argument's sake....so by the end of the 23 season, we should be good again.

or we're on a 5 year plan with Pruitt...which puts us at the end of the 22 season.

so no matter what we do/don't do right now, we're still 2-3 years away....maybe.

joy.

I don't think you are going to be a better position financially next year, either. Between Pruitt's raise, buying out the DL coach, hiring another DL coach, paying the buyouts of the mass exodus of coaches that is about to happen + the buyouts/contracts of the new people (you'll over pay to get them to come here), lack of excitement leading into next year....I mean it might be time to cut bait now. put the renos on hold, use that money for the new staff. idk, just spewing.

Agree. We don’t have a choice if we want to return to relevance. Thank Pruitt for helping us when we were down to the lowest level in history. Thanks for working hard, but it isn’t working out. He’ll be fine. He’ll be at Bama next year as DC making a mil pet.

Hire Freeze and we’ll be back, and sooner rather than later. That’s the hire that would finally dig us out of the pit. I guarantee you that Ga, Bama, and Fl don’t want us making that hire.

If we don’t hire him he’ll be at Mi, Tx, SC, or AU and they’ll be winning while we’re firing Pruitt and hiring a guy no one else wants in 2021
I seriously might Herbstreit cry if we let this opportunity pass us by.

Auburn Insiders: “Admins want to keep Gus if he has a decent record this year, but boosters pushing for Freeze.”

SC Insiders: “Muschamp gone. Look for either Freeze or maybe Brady or Napier.”

Our Insiders: “I don’t know. Uhh, Ray?”
LMAO. just catching up on this thread and reading last nights “Ray” posts is the hardest I’ve laughed in awhile. Thanks, VN.

Last thing I will post for awhile. Long story short, Jeremy had the info to contact the kid and his dad. He did not ever do it. Some of his Bama friends were trying and even Pruitt's mom was involved. He acted like he did not remember anything the other day. I don't think he hates kids but he probably meant to do something but then he forgot or whatever where it slipped thru the cracks. Regardless, others took the ball and the kid and his father were allowed to use a skybox and got to meet Coach Fulmer. It was a great experience made to happen with VFL's. Do not really care about jackcrevol and what he believes or not. Just got me started out on a bad foot and told Pruitt as much the other day. Of course that was before the Arky game. I just want to win football games and hear Neyland roar again.

there is absolutely zero reason this kind of thing is on Bama Jeremeys plate. This is the king of thing staffers and SIDS handle. They can bring Pruitt by for a handshake or a signed note but it’s ridiculous to think it was placed in him to line all this up. His time is way too stretched and his staff is way to large for this to placed on him

Tenn fired Fulmer to get our guy Kiffen
Tenn fired Dooley to get our guy Butch
Tenn fired Butch to get our guy Pruitt.

Other schools make good hires. Tennessee doesnt

If I'm not mistaken, Arkansas was Pittman's dream job. He wants to be there, he isn't doing it just as a stepping stone, or just for the money, or for just career progression, or even just for the challenge. He is all in for other reasons.

I don't think that is true of Pruitt. I don't think that would have been true for Pittman had he come here. I don't think that is true for almost all other options.

Except Freeze. He wants to be here and he is an excellent coach. He beat Saban. TWICE. I guarantee he is the only coach our rivals absolutely don't want us to hire. They know a coach like Freeze at a place like UT is trouble.

He would be all in here and if he didn't succeed it wouldn't be because he didn't almost die trying.

It really is Freeze or bust and move on to our next 5-year experiment/project.

Frost and Chip turned Florida down before they lowered themselves to hire a coach from MIss St.
Bama was turned down by Rich Rod before they got desperate enough to camp out in front of SAban's house in Miami and offer him complete control of the football program.

sometimes things just work out for you.

unless it's Tennessee of course.

Other than maybe Kiffin, we didn’t ‘get our guy’ with those other hires. If this is Freeze’s dream job, then he would be the guy. We don’t fire Pruitt unless Freeze is a guarantee.
