You're assuming those with deep pockets want the same coach you want. Not saying your source is wrong, but I find it interesting that Deerpark has cited that it hasn't been an issue of money in previous searches but of candidates worth paying the money for. I can't help but think that if Fulmer needed to re-excite those with deep pockets to pay the buyout, the promise of an established SEC level HC would absolutely do that.
COVID influence aside, and I'm not downplaying it, but the money needed to be raised I feel could be done in the course of one afternoon if the end result was to have HF in power by end of the season - which is only a month away.
We all want the same, my friend!Last thing I will post for awhile. Long story short, Jeremy had the info to contact the kid and his dad. He did not ever do it. Some of his Bama friends were trying and even Pruitt's mom was involved. He acted like he did not remember anything the other day. I don't think he hates kids but he probably meant to do something but then he forgot or whatever where it slipped thru the cracks. Regardless, others took the ball and the kid and his father were allowed to use a skybox and got to meet Coach Fulmer. It was a great experience made to happen with VFL's. Do not really care about jackcrevol and what he believes or not. Just got me started out on a bad foot and told Pruitt as much the other day. Of course that was before the Arky game. I just want to win football games and hear Neyland roar again.
Rich Rod was a big name at the time. They still fired Shula before he got his own players in the program. When Rich Rod didn’t work out, they put it on the table for the big name. We don’t even have to get that lucky if this is indeed the job Freeze wants most.Frost and Chip turned Florida down before they lowered themselves to hire a coach from MIss St.
Bama was turned down by Rich Rod before they got desperate enough to camp out in front of SAban's house in Miami and offer him complete control of the football program.
sometimes things just work out for you.
unless it's Tennessee of course.
If I'm not mistaken, Arkansas was Pittman's dream job. He wants to be there, he isn't doing it just as a stepping stone, or just for the money, or for just career progression, or even just for the challenge. He is all in for other reasons.
I don't think that is true of Pruitt. I don't think that would have been true for Pittman had he come here. I don't think that is true for almost all other options.
Except Freeze. He wants to be here and he is an excellent coach. He beat Saban. TWICE. I guarantee he is the only coach our rivals absolutely don't want us to hire. They know a coach like Freeze at a place like UT is trouble.
He would be all in here and if he didn't succeed it wouldn't be because he didn't almost die trying.
It really is Freeze or bust and move on to our next 5-year experiment/project.
I don't know that it is THE job he wants anymore. At one time I think it was true.Rich Rod was a big name at the time. They still fired Shula before he got his own players in the program. When Rich Rod didn’t work out, they put it on the table for the big name. We don’t even have to get that lucky if this is indeed the job Freeze wants most.
Pointing out schools who have made successful coaching hires is not a relevant point. We have tried as much as anyone to hire our guy, and we NEVER get him. I'm not holding our hope for Hugh Freeze and the desperation on here is going to lead to a lot of disappointment. This board is almost unreadable at this point.Other than maybe Kiffin, we didn’t ‘get our guy’ with those other hires. If this is Freeze’s dream job, then he would be the guy. We don’t fire Pruitt unless Freeze is a guarantee.
when are we starting the rebuild clock this time?
if we fire the current coach and hire a new one, the clock starts over, right? so 3 years for argument's sake....so by the end of the 23 season, we should be good again.
or we're on a 5 year plan with Pruitt...which puts us at the end of the 22 season.
so no matter what we do/don't do right now, we're still 2-3 years away....maybe.
joy.
Would @Atlanta VOL or someone in the know who actually has stones just be BLUNT about what makes UT so ‘toxic’? No riddles. No liking posts which might come close to reality. Name names. Tell us a real story. If y’all can’t fix it behind the scenes then give the fans the knowledge to demand the change themselves.Lowe also mentioned that UT is not thought of as a good job, but a toxic environment.

so which is it then? Saban wasn't the plan. they didn't fire Shula, with the intent of hiring Saban. there werne't any backroom deals already done. they went all in Rich Rod, and he said no thanks.Rich Rod was a big name at the time. Now is the time to make a move. Because any program that wanted to make a change after this season is likely going to do it after next season. Some big jobs could come open in the next year. Could be Michigan, Texas, USC, Auburn, or my wildcard Oklahoma. Waiting until after next season to make a move could be disastrous as far as having viable options.
Here’s the thing: Hubbs has a right to be pissed. Football being bad affects a lot of people’s livelihoods. Sure, the site can get a short-lived uptick during a coaching search, but long-term suckage is BAD. When the apathy is what it is, VQ will likely lose business forever.Yep! Something is going to explode between now and the end of the year! Hubbs has NEVER put out articles like this!
IMO he hired the best that he interviewed and he’s done an overall great job for the university...and that’s from someone who was a doubter when he first sought the position. When Fulmer was named AD, I was against it. I know he is VFL and I want him to succeed just like I want Pruitt to succeed. My greatest fear was that CPF would want credit for resurrecting the football program and hire accordingly. I was afraid he would not want a proven coach instead he would want a coach to mold, mentor, and meddle. I hope that my fears have not become a reality, but this extension has really backfired. Fulmer’s solution will be get a new assistants, but it may be too late. I hope CPF surprises me and proves me wrong.
i don't disagree with the path.If you pulled the trigger on Freeze now (consider that no one is losing eligibility for next season) we wouldn’t have to flip the roster again, and probably would end up with a good recruiting class too.
If you chance it and Pruitt craters again next year (which, be honest, looks pretty likely), whoever the next guy is will start exactly where Jones and Pruitt had to start.
Like I said, there’s a pretty good path out of the woods right now. Just have to take it.
