That’s interesting but Pruitt has tried and accomplished a number of times winning games with a slow it down type approach since that first year. I think that’s why you see the defensive numbers much better in year 2 and honestly that was the plan at Arkansas as well
Maybe, but it's not just pace. Our Y2 efficiency numbers were much better over Y1.

Y1 YPP
Offense 5.46
Defense 5.67

Y2
Offense 5.79
Defense 5.01

I have a lot of respect for someone who started getting into Tennessee football post-2005, or especially post-2008, and bleeds orange. That isn't easy. They haven't stuck around through think and thin...they've just stuck around through thin.

I was born in 1987 and have been a fan for as long as I can remember, so while they've stunk for basically half my life at this point I have a ton of memories as a kid of them being good. If I didn't have those, I can imagine it'd be hard for me to remain interested.

I grew up cheering for the Vols but took them for granted. Fandom waned after the national championship and came back around 2007 because my roommate at MTSU was a UT transfer. Then when Lane was hired I really got back onboard. Really awful timing. It's hard to believe we've been bad for so long. And that we've only beaten Florida once and Bama ZERO times since then. Saban took over and that was that. It's almost incredible how we haven't even "accidentally" beaten Bama. Or Florida for that matter! It took the greatest second half in UT history to beat a 9-4 Gators team.

i remember watching my mom cry when Majors beat Bear. and my grandmother cussing Bear Bryant and my grandfather just shaking his head at her lol.

my first game was the citadel in Memphis at hte liberty bowl, "pre" season game in 1982..(i think it was 82?)...anyway.........

i don't know how else to be. sometimes wish i did.

but i'd really like it if this program could get relevant again. sooner than later. don't really care how, don't really care who the coach is anymore....

i sometimes envy you younger ones...you don't know what you're missing. i know for my kids, who are a generation behind you, they truly have no idea, not even a childhood memory of that "one year" we were good lol.

for the Gen X crowd...

this has been a long, long, long decade+.......

for the majority of my child hood and up until my mid 30's...basicaly my entire life up until i was about 35...we were a relevant program, and were good to very good most years...elite for more than a couple of years....

to see what we've seen since 2005 really has been....well, not much fun.
09 was the first full season I remember. If there weren't old videos of the 90's I wouldn't believe it when someone told me TN was actually a good program at one point.

I was born in 92! So I seen the good parts on the tail end when it mattered the most!

So in other words this has been planned for a while
Yep. They've thought about firing Muschamp for at least 2 years. I think people have kind have forgotten this because they beat Georgia last year, but they went 4-8. They stunk. They didn't go 0-fer in SEC play like we did during our 4-8 season, but they had a loss to App State.

So, in talking to some folks, the South Carolina firing might not be the precedent we think it is.

Apparently the Gamecocks had about $40M in reserve cash to make this move. UT is sitting on about $9M to date.

It doesn’t mean a change can’t happen - it just means UT would be much more beholden to boosters to get it done.

Are any of the buyouts paid lump sum? If not, it really becomes a question of future revenues vs future buyout expense. We always talk of boosters fixing these things, but both the problem and solution are fans in seats.

Most are paid out over time, but I'm not sure about the buyout you have to pay to pluck Hugh Freeze from Liberty, for example. Maybe all that has to be up front?

All depends on how the contract was drawn up. Could be some kind of a lump sum, could be payments.

For example, 50% of Gus's buyout at Auburn is due within 30 days of his termination without cause: Details of Malzahn's 7-year, $49 million contract

I really would miss Pruitt as a human. Cool dude.

But would you miss him as his true Remulakian self?
