I keep seeing people saying he has to lose out to get fired. What’s the difference in losing out and going 1-3 with a win over Vandy? Is that supposed to be some big accomplishment? 1-3 is the most likely scenario.

Nothing. Candy means nothing. He’s a dead man walking. It’s how we push him out the door that will affect our short-term football health. Some poster (can’t remember) keeps hanging his hat on “no transfers” as evidence he’s not going anywhere. Please. Look at the forest for the trees, this program is treading water, stale, with good players. This staff just can’t put together a winning game plan. We can do better.

Just makes 0 sense how we had so much momentum and optimism in the off season to this. It's just hard to fathom how all of these players love JP but suddenly he can't coach. I don't remember who, but somebody from the 18 team (Kyle Phillips?) said they wish they had more time with JP. After playing for CBJ, you'd think they'd know the difference between a competent/ incompetent coach. Something had to have happened, right?

In all seriousness if beating Vandy is enough to keep a coach around, this program is already doomed

Man, we really have a way of twisting things. (I'm not just talking about this post, as it's far from the only one saying this.)
So here's the logic people are using (not saying I think he will or won't be fired in any situation; just explaining the situation).

1. Apparently there is no desire or plan to fire him this year. Like it, don't like it. Doesn't matter. That's the opinion.
2. BUT, if things get so bad that we lose out, which would include Candy, then the logic goes that they'd be forced to fire him this year.

Really seems very simple to me. I think the only people who don't get this and use it for more insults are those who have already decided he must go. Now. Fine, but that's got nothing to do with Candy being the standard, because in those minds we could win 2 or 3 more and they'd still think he should be fired.

It's insane that beating an 0-10 Vandy team buys him another year.

The reason I say he's not going anywhere (this year) is totally about money. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe UT doesn't screw up another coaching search, and maybe the hire finally proves to be the right guy. That's a lot of maybes.

Still think he gets one more year, and it's all about the money.

It sounds like Butch-level madness of how it was decided if he stays or goes. Since when does the decision to pull the trigger on a terrible HC hire ride on whether or not we best a winless Vandy team??!! My word how far we have fallen!

Listen up administration, boosters, Fulmer, and anyone else with say so in these decisions...

TENNESSEE FOOTBALL IS JUDGED ON OUR PERFORMANCE AGAINST OUR BIGGEST RIVALS...UGA, FL, BAMA!! WE HAVE LOST BY 20+ TO ALL 3 OF THEM IN 3 YEARS UNDER PRUITT!! WE ARE NOT CLOSING THE GAP, AND THAT ALONE IS GROUNDS FOR DISMISSAL!!! ADD TO THAT WE HAVE LOST TO KY, ARKY, GA ST, BYU, AND THAT IS EVEN MORE GROUNDS FOR DISMISSAL!!!

HIRE FREEZE AND WIN SOON!!

It doesn’t hinge on beating Vandy or not. It’s just losing to a winless Vandy team makes it a no brainer and hard to comprehend. Vandy was a good team under Franklin. This one is not good at all. It just makes even COVID and money impossible to ignore.

It's the money. It's not about beating Vandy. It's not wanting to pay the buyout.

Then why would he be fired assumingly if he loses to Vandy? I get you, the university is cheap as hell, but I don't get the emphasis that is being put on the Vandy game lol

he let go of half his coaching staff.. I won;t get into offense but on the defensive side, those dudes would coach their tails off... couldn't recruit up to JP's standards, so JP replaced them with guys he thought could recruit better.. now, they're falling short on the field and with development

If they were that deadset on not wanting to pay the buyout, then he stays at 2-8 even if we don't score another point the rest of the way.

There's nuance here. Beating Vandy doesn't move the needle with the fanbase or season ticket sales. If there's a possibility he gets canned at 2-8 there's a possibility he gets canned at 3-7 with a win over an 0-10 Vandy squad. It's not either/or.

Why keep it quite? Cause of all this salary cut mess that been happening? These back rooms deals make things look so suspicious. I don't care that he got a two year extension, I just wonder why the secrecy.

I don't know where I heard it (maybe here), but I heard several months ago that he got a contract extension. I remember thinking, "Why would he sign an extension if he's not going to be on the job very long as rumored?" So, not sure it was quiet as they're making it sound.

Edit: This is his 2nd extension. The first one is the one I was remembering.

Maybe, just maybe, Fulmer didn't want to be the first one to make a move.. IMO Auburn may be do or die... JP has two weeks to prepare.. if we get ran off the field, Fulmer will make his move and we'll be in full coaching search mode this time next week...

For you Tee Martin groupies, let him take over for the last 3 games and see if he can make a difference.. At the very least, let him show what he can do so he can possibly get his shot at another school..

Lol! I think Bailey is good enough to beat Auburn and Vandy. That probably saves his job. I still don’t think he lasts but it would buy him one more year. But they could keep on with this 10 passes a game and we lose every game. We shall see.

“Pruitt has lost the team and the staff”

Looks around and sees not ONE former player or major media guys have called for his head., (hell some of them have even said he hasn’t) no recruits are decommitting, players are still practicing as normal and not acting up..

All of these things happened on Butch’s way out the door and there’s ZERO signs of any of that this season.

He has NOT lost the team. Period.
Ah not so sure. I'm not saying he definitely has lost the team but there is evidence to support the theory he has. This whole coaching staff seems to have quit on the team imo. I've also heard there was a players only meeting recently. Players only meetings don't happen when a team has strong leadership and continuity with the staff. They happen because of a lack of leadership. Apparently Morven Joseph basically told everyone "I don't even know you" to his fellow players. Thats a red flag. Its an indication these players are basically wandering week to week. You think the dudes in the Arkansas locker room don't know each other? No. They've bought in to their coaches. All this press about coaches refusing to take pay cuts. How do you think that resonates with the players they are asking to give their all?

Again I'm not saying they have 100% quit. But to say all forces in the football program are moving in the same direction is false imo.

I think we should move on from Pruitt but understand why we won’t. I’m good with that especially if you know Hugh is willing to wait one more year.
But what’s the difference in one year in regards to the buyout? Does that offset lost revenue from fan apathy?

If you know you are going to make a change in a year just go ahead and do it now.
