I could care less what Sankey says. If we fired Pruitt and hired Freeze, let him try to tell you no. Make it a big publicity scene. Bama hired Kiffin who left us with sanctions. Hired a Former head coach who struggled with alcohol abuse. And so on. I bet he backs off.
Kiffin or Sark never had a Level I violation though. Technically, they didn't have to consult with Sankey about those hires.

I bet Sankey discouraged the hiring of Freeze for the actual NCAA violations he was guilty of at Ole Miss, not the escort services. That's what ended up being funny about the whole thing...Freeze wasn't actually fired for the massive rule-breaking and sanctions he got slapped on them.

Sankey got Saban to back off of a pursuit of Freeze a few years ago, so he's already shown that being a blue blood doesn't automatically give you a green light. Maybe time has softened that a bit now that we're a few years removed and Freeze is rehabbing his image, but who knows.
Yeah, I think with the probation ending this year it would be hard to block him. They don't really have a reason now. Ole Miss had just got punished and were one year into their 3 year probation when Bama tried to get him.

I guess the larger point is, if you put up this fight and get ugly about it, you have to be sure you're going to win as a result.

And you have to be sure there are no candidates worth hiring that might bring similar results while also not simultaneously making you the black sheep of the conference.
All would be forgotten in a few years. UT being good is good for the conference and brings in money. That’s all they care about.

I agree with you if the wins come.

But what happens if they don't? Or what happens if they do, but it comes with sanctions?

I'm just saying, it's easier to make this decision on the outside than on the inside.

Very true! I just want to win and be a respected program again. It’s obvious that is not going to happen with Pruitt so why postpone the inevitable.

We're simpatico on this - Pruitt has to go.

What I'm saying is it's probably more likely we hire a Napier or someone like that instead of taking the chance on Freeze if the SEC is still putting up a fight.

I'm not @HankHill - I can't evaluate these things at a high level.

But it seems like Kirby has been more willing to let his offensive coordinators do their jobs - and obviously, like you said, he's had Alabama talent at Georgia.

Jimbo is a different animal, to me, because he's an offensive guy where Saban is a defensive guy. And he's been away from Saban for so long that I would imagine he has his own strategies and play calls at this point.

We do things the exact same as Alabama. Same practice script down to the same V-O-L-S jumping jack clap like they do B-A-M-A while stretching, and same way they even take their team picture. It was one of my first red flags on Pruitt. You don’t beat bama by being bama, you don’t beat the patriots by being the patriots etc.

Jimbo is a great coach. I’m a little surprised it’s taking him this long to get things going at A&M but it seems like he has now and is pretty much one special QB away from being a playoff team which should be the goal at Tennessee and basically any school year in and year out. Basically 8-10 wins any given year and if you luck into an elite QB you can make a run.

I will never hold it against any coach for not finding great QBs Bc they are just so rare. Around the league there’s a thought that college gives you 1.5 franchise QBs a year now to draft. But you should be able to find and design average QB play if you are at a top program like Tennessee. Maybe once in a tenure where injuries, bad luck, transfers or whatever may all align and just give you a sh** sand which at QB. but for the most part any top flight program should always be decent at QB.

I thought we dropped the ball this year in recruiting not taking a transfer QB. Some may disagree with this but i think you should take a 2 QB in every class whether it be out of high school, juco, transfer or whatever. On average if you have 25 players in a class... even the absolute best classes will have 5 absolute whiffs. So i would prefer to have 2 swings at the most important in sports and have a super competitive QB room. I think there’s connection between JG having his best year in year 1 under Pruitt when Chryst was here Bc it bud as a true competitor for JG in his eyes.

“You don’t beat Bama by BEATING Bama”? 😉

I forget, did you overlap with Pruitt before you left the program?

I think Napier is a solid coach, who doesn’t have a lot of baggage and has coached at big programs before. His family is also really big in the Georgia High school football scene.
