I don't think they're actually consulting with Peyton and asking for his opinion about these coaches. Peyton is a figurehead, and they bring him out to speak with the coach that "they" have already decided they wanted to hire.
Peyton is a FAN. As loyal or MORE SO than anybody on this board and has never claimed to be any authority on coaches. That’s OUR projection.

Ray would probably be his go to. Gotta remember some of the big money likes him....but A LOT don’t.
Here's the "Ray" post.... for anyone interested. AV was lobbing grenades that night. He might not be right all the time but he knows how to get the party started.

VN was lit on November 10th.

Where the F is the fired up board kicking, face grabbing, ass chewing Pruitt at? I like that guy.

I don’t like this new RINO Pruitt. At. All.
You ever struggled at doing something, gotten really mad and frustrated, but it doesn't get any better? And the longer than goes on, you find yourself not being able to summon the emotional energy to get mad about it anymore, and you end up just kind of accepting it?

That's where Pruitt is now. I think he's just kind of accepted what his reality is, and he's probably checking out.

I don’t get it. The guy this year doesn’t look anything like the guy the past two years. It’s like he just feels sorry for all of them and doesn’t want to get on them really bad because it’s been a rough year for them mentally.

I enjoyed the Butch era more than this. It ended badly but it was fun while it was going good until the whole AJ thing and Lawson firing. Everything went south from there. Lawson firing was the end.

I’d rather watch a team lose but playing fun and trying their hardest and coaching their butts off. Instead I just feel bad for the kids because their coaches are not giving them the best chance to win by the decision to play JG. It’s obvious the players haven’t liked this dude since he got here. They respect him but they don’t like him. He hasn’t had people surround him to celebrate the entire time he has been here. He does everything off to side himself then he gets the mandatory yeah man congrats fist bump while they go wild for anyone else that scores or makes big play

I think he is on Xanax or antidepressants. Doesn't seem like the same fiery guy and honestly looks beaten down and resigned to his fate. It's a shame because I like him and think he is a good coach/man but he needs to have his hand forced by Fulmer to play Bailey.

He has shown willingness to play freshmen and sophomores but just won't do it at QB. It's almost like he feels JG has toughed it out long enough to have earned the right to play out his Senior "throwaway" season.

This is how I know he won't be fired this year. He has assurances that he gets next year no matter what so he will give Bailey just enough time to get some experience but will start JG and roll with him unless the game is out of reach. It's a flawed way of coaching but no other explanation makes sense.

I do think there is hope for us to be pretty good next year....especially if the few seniors worth playing come back. Also, we really need Bryce back.

I agree with this completely. Before this year, Pruitt seemed like he was willing to be risky to give us a chance to win. This year it’s like we are playing just to keep it close, and yet we don’t even keep it close. I don’t get it.

His press conference demeanor is unchanged. He's always been very stoic in those. It's his on-field demeanor that has gotten way less fiery.

He plays the game as though he has the better athletes on the field and can go toe-to-toe against these teams, like he's still at Alabama.

I believe his timidness is due a lot to confusion, and a ton with the fact he’s successfully delegated every responsibility in-game.

Watch it on Saturday, when we’re on defense, Ansley is standing beside him calling everything.

When we’re on offense, Tee is calling everything (from Chaney in the box.)

How is it even a discussion that Jeremy is retained for 2021? A good HS head coach taking over could do better than this guy.

Seriously - look at all of the "firsts" that have happened in his three seasons and his inability to even speak to the public coherently. His choices relating to the usage of specific players and the obvious regression of the team under his leadership just simply sucks. Stubborn and dumb are not attributes of a good HC. They are not attributes for an athletic department mired in red ink either. Even the best CFB HC on the planet (Saban) makes regular changes in his approach, schemes, players, etc. How did Bama come out of their stench pre-Saban? They hired the best. How about UF? Hired Urban Meyer and now the best available, Mullen. A school probably has a 10% chance of hitting on the right wannabe. They have to be willing to terminate quickly when the facts are known and always have the best on speed dial in advance if they want an elite program. They now have that opportunity again with several good choices - especially Freeze.

Despite the AV posts, some of us know or had past dealings with some of the major boosters and UT officials personally. AV can do crowd control on VN if he wants. He seems like a really good guy. But some of us know better in regards to the major boosters' inner circle. FWIW Peyton has demonstrated he is clueless about who the HC at UT ought to be for a dozen years now. Not who I would use as my example for program leadership back to elite status. The entire group either needs to let Phil hire the best and then shut up and write the checks - just get out of the way - or keep doing what they are doing to downsize the importance of Vol football forever. JMO.

I agree. Hope he takes control back and goes balls out next year. I think he can still get us back if allowed to have a full off season. Bring on the vaccine....Knoxville better mandate that some early doses are set aside for UT athletes. That will be a huge boost to local economy if we are good again. It impacts the university, local businesses and overall mental health of everyone in the area and those of us watching from a distance.
