I was going to say maybe Nebraska. They are hurt by recruiting areas around them but they should definitely be better than they are.

Have you ever driven through Nebraska? Southeast Nebraska is a little different but other than that, it’s mostly just grassland, nothing for miles and miles. Most boring state I’ve ever drove through.

On Offense - Replace Weinke and Friend, let Chaney have a say in the replacements and leave his ass alone.
On Defense - have a focus with Ansley, get a DL Coach and an actual LBer coach.

Figure out who should take TE between Nieds and Osovet

Gtfo and let's find a new coach.

Most likely you are correct but I think something along these lines would be the only way Pruitt has a chance to save himself.

IF Pruitt was retained he basically has to pray Harrison Bailey is the second coming of Manning and wins us 10 games and a win over one of our big 3 rivals.

Every coaching search we get sold on a big name coach that never comes. I'd love to have freeze, but I've been down this road before. It'll be unproven coach Jimmy Joe and we'll be hoping for 6-6 next year.

There is some truth to this. When is the last time we had an actual football coach coaching our football team?

Some could argue Kiffin. He leaves in the middle of the night. We try to hire at least 3 real football coaches who all turn us down. We panic and hire a lawyer.

He fails. We again try to hire at least 2 real football coaches. Again we are turned down and again we panic. So Hamilton interviews a Yankee (I can say that becaus I am one haha) who played in a high school band in a hotel room for 4 hours and gives him the job.

He fails. Our AD fails miserably and gets told to come home. But instead he goes rogue and hires an actual football coach. But flag on the play and it gets called back. Then we hire a real football coach....... To be our AD. He doesn't even really try to hire a real football coach. (I understand he was in a tough spot) But again we panic. Hire an elementary school gym teacher.

We just keep taking steps back. I don't think we will handle this correctly either. The logical thing to do is hire a football coach. Hugh Freeze. But we won't. Maybe Matt Campbell. But we won't. Even if Pruitt is fired, which after this last stunt of ducking Vandy I don't think he will be, we will again panic. No doubt about it.

Yeah, they are only going to play 5 games this year is what I am saying. Thats their 3rd cancellation and apparently they arent doing make up games.

What's crazy is if you remove the Peyton/Clausen era from Fulmer he really didn't do anything that impressive as a HC. So it's not unthinkable that a great QB could elevate a bad coach, if Bailey is close to Peyton/Casey level then his sheer talent will elevate the offense to 8+ wins for the time he's here. And if one of those seasons Pruitt has the defense clicking, you've got a real shot at winning the East.

Who knows though, I've been utterly disappointed with the offensive side since Pruitt showed up and the willingness to stay with JG through it all is truly baffling.

Fulmer had elite defenses too though. In his whole HC time here he only had 2 defenses not in the top 40...and a majority were in the top 20.

In the 12 seasons since...we've had 7 defenses outside the top 40 including 2 of 3 seasons under Pruitt.

I want to survey the room:
Do y’all really trust Phil Fulmer to make great hires as AD? If so why?
(please give me something more than his love for Tennessee)

I do. Don't know him personally but he strikes me as a patient man who thinks things through. He has a quality a lot of our past AD's lacked in his ability to listen to a different point of view. He knows what its like to coach on a championship level. I honestly think he has more positive qualities than negative ones.

I'll say this though and its only my opinion. Not based on any insider rumors or anything. I think if he fires Pruitt this year he'll make the next hire. If he decides to give him another year and Pruitt fails I think he will be gone with him.
