I just want to speak this semi-realistic coaching carousel into existence:
Pruitt and Fuente are fired from their prospective programs on the same day.
Todd Grantham is hired to replace Fuente (he’s a VT alum)
Fuente is hired at UT to replace Pruitt.
Pruitt is hired as Florida’s DC to replace Grantham.

I don’t want to tell you what this scenario does to UT’s recruiting, specifically on the defensive side.

Fulmer isn’t going to hire someone who can’t/doesn’t want to Kroot. He won’t touch Fuente.

The retread hire that is realistic you should focus on is Sark. I also wouldn’t be so quick to rule out Fickel. He wants to win at a high level and I’m not sure he gets a good enough Big Ten job to do that. Ohio State is coming open for him for a long time.

Then we get into the Napier rung, who I think is a really good coach that would be successful here.

Exactly. If Fuente wants to win a NC he would come here. TN would give him resources he doesn't have at VT as well. Plus he has experience. It wouldn't be a bad hire at all.

My opinion is Fickell and Campbell are totally unrealistic. And I think people have all their eggs in the Freeze basket, when we simply aren’t going to call the guy.

So when those top three are out, there’s going to be a serious panic here.

I’m setting my bar at that point.

You all might as well accept that CJP is going to be back and just hope he can make some wise coaching changes and keep the recruiting class together.

About Fuente. Maybe I'm wrong but ino TN is a better job then Va Tech. Imo if he could get the support Pruitt has he would do well here. He's a good offensive mind and if we gave him 1.5 I'm sure he could find a solid DC. Va Tech is a good program but im not sure it has the ceiling TN does when its at its peak.

If it was only about recruiting. Fuente simply gets OUTCOACHED every year against those he actually has outrecruited. And if Georgia State is Pruitt’s Waterloo, then what would Old Dominion rate?

I think if Pruitt survives this season, he will do well enough to be retained after next season, too. If he beats Vanderbilt this year it means we likely would have been 6-6 in a regular season.

I do not think he will enough long-term to survive.

I agree with this. Fulmer promised him 5 years and will keep him here for 5 years. We will once again wait a year or two too late and have to start over once again.

Except for Switzer’s era and a few times under Stoops, the Longhorns have traditionally outranked the Sooners in recruiting rankings. Now what they do with the athletes after signing them is a different level.

I'll take your word for it on the recruiting rankings. I guess my memory is more locked into the long list of players who shine at OU who went to HS in Texas. Which would mean OU recruits and develops better than Texas.
