I think there’s a chance we’ll be good next year if the recruiting class survives. Bailey vs Salter qb battle (starting in spring) more rb and wr, some defense help.

Can't wait to see that 2nd string fight for the honor of backing up 6th year JG

1. Bc Mack brown mailed it in for his last few years the same way Jimbo Fisher did at FSU.
2. Theyve hired two guys in succession who were highly regarded who didn’t pan out
At least Texas tried they hired two of the hottest names on the carousel. It must be nice to have boosters and an administration who at least swings for the fences. I could really see Meyer going there. There is plenty of money in Texas.

I know I will get flamed for this but I think Dave Doren would have done well here. He's done a good job at NC State and did really well at Northern Illinois before that.

I think Shrout is on par or worse than JG, what limited time he's played, he's not impressed me at all. Maurer did some good things last year, but he plays wild and tends to get himself hurt. (This year he's had mental health issues and shouldn't be playing.) That leaves HB, which I think could be the best QB we've had in years. He didn't get a typical freshman spring and summer.....BUT, he should've took most of the snaps vs Ky and Al, and then took over the starting QB spot during the 1st bye week. That's what I can't figure out, why they didn't get HB ready until last week to take over. The more I've thought about it, JG probably did give us the best shot to win early this season. That's how bad the QB situation has been and might explain why Pruitt has looked like a zombie this year. I'd like to see if his demeanor changes with HB starting at QB. I'm willing to give Pruitt more time, instead of bringing in a coach without SEC head coaching experience. I don't want any more unknowns and talking myself into accepting another mediocre hire.

Lose JG. Keep Pruitt.

yup, they may not have gotten it right but they definitely swing for the fences.
and yes, I fully expect Urbie And every other hot name to be in play there

About Fuente. Maybe I'm wrong but ino TN is a better job then Va Tech. Imo if he could get the support Pruitt has he would do well here. He's a good offensive mind and if we gave him 1.5 I'm sure he could find a solid DC. Va Tech is a good program but im not sure it has the ceiling TN does when its at its peak.
The staff at VaTech is a mess. Players walked out of a practice recently. Fuente may not make it to next week

He would probably be doing slightly better than Pruitt. Wheels wouldn't have come off this year but we would only be 1-2 games better IMO. Would still be headed towards a good old fashioned FAHRING.

Who out of our previous realistic candidates going back to 2009 would have actually done well here long-term?

I think Patterson and Kelly are about it. Even Cut would have been fired by now. What's sad is we could have had Patterson or Kelly in late 2008 because the job was still really good.

I tend to agree, as crazy as it sounds with the string of double-digit losses, but we aren’t as bad as it seems.

UGA = they whipped us at LOS, but the QB carelessness put us in a no-win situation

UK = 100% QB play

Bama = we just ain’t even close yet

Arkansas = 100% QB play

Auburn = 100% QB play

A legit QB and this is a very different season. We have run the ball well, for the most part. The defense hasn’t been as bad as it seems, especially considering the offensive challenges that pits them in bad spots.

If Fulmer sticks with Pruitt, I can see a path out of this mess. Not saying Pruitt can get it done, but a legit QB would make a world of difference.
“Best chance of winning” entails not advancing the offense. Every game was a matter of time before we find a way to lose. That carries over to the defense and seemingly the special teams. Pruitt’s quick hook with anyone other than JG has lent itself to the small rot taking over the whole arm. Maybe two weeks of facing reality reaches our coach? As Red famously opused...”hope’s a dangerous thing...drive a man insane.”

I just want to speak this semi-realistic coaching carousel into existence:
Pruitt and Fuente are fired from their prospective programs on the same day.
Todd Grantham is hired to replace Fuente (he’s a VT alum)
Fuente is hired at UT to replace Pruitt.
Pruitt is hired as Florida’s DC to replace Grantham.

I don’t want to tell you what this scenario does to UT’s recruiting, specifically on the defensive side.
Don’t you put that evil on us!
