My frustration is this: the defense is there. What Pruitt has done with this defense is nothing short of remarkable. We aren’t Ga on defense, but we also don’t have near the talent and we may be the second best defense in the league. When you look at our defense we have 2 elite players. Ga has 22 on defense. Their entire 2 deep is elite. We have no one on that DL who has a chance to get drafted (although I think the freshmen will). And yet our guys are very good against the run. Our defense is going to be elite when Pruitt gets a full stable of his players in here. That said, we need to recruit better on the DL. We need to land Malone.
But offense, that’s the concern. We have 5 stars on the OL and they still make boneheaded mistakes and ran for -1 yards against Ga. our wide receivers are average. Palmer is pretty good but not elite. Our RB’s? Chandler isn’t an NFL player. Gray is, but likely as a specialist, not a straight RB. QB? Oof.
If we want to get to where we need to get, we have to fix that offense. May need a couple coaching changes there but who knows. Need to figure it out. I like the freshmen receivers, don’t like the freshmen RB’s. I like Cody Brown, but Wright is a question mark. Who knows what he is? We need Evans back in this class. And we are not recruiting at an elite level on the OL. We have to step up recruiting at that position. Big time.
