NoI just can’t help but think this is our guy if we miss on one or two other candidates.
Grew up on the farm in Caryville. His dad was coach at Campbell County HS and Anderson County HS for a long time. Played QB at ETSU, he camped at Neyland every summer trying to get an offer.
His wife is from Athens and her family owns a car dealership down there and are pretty wealthy/respected in the community.
Grew up a Vol fan. Knows how important Tennessee football is to this community.
He runs a unique offense, has been a head coach for a decade, and has recruiting connections all over the Carolinas.
Oh, and he’s got an undefeated team that’s the talk of the college football world.

It's amazing seeing the disagreement on here about coaches.
Someone says Freeze, someone else says "no way!"
Someone says Franklin is a home run, another says "Heck no on Franklin!"
Go down the list and you find this about everyone. There's even been people saying no way on Meyer and Campbell. Just funny to see.
I wouldn't take Gus for exactly the reasons you mentioned. This place will despise him and ride him out on a rail within four years at most.I would take Gus if our first handful of guys say no. I don't think he'll do great things here if he couldn't recapture the magic at Auburn. I know enough Auburn people to see the future on this board and all of the things that make them pull their hair out would send this place into a frenzy.
Gus makes too much sense. We need to get to a spot where we can consistently win 8 games, and that will make this job much more attractive. Gus will do that easily, maybe even sprinkle in a couple east titles and a playoff appearance.
Chadwell or Napier would come here in a hurry. Both would be decent hires if we struck out on our top names.I just can’t help but think this is our guy if we miss on one or two other candidates.

Tennessee is at the point where an up and comer isn’t going to work and we’re not getting a name like Stoops or Meyer, that’s fantasy level ish. So the more I think about it, the more Gus makes sense. Tennessee needs stability and someone that can last 4-6 years in Knoxville, maybe more? Tennessee football needs someone to prove that you can consistently win in Knoxville. Gus might just be that guy. Forget the Hot young name, forget the splash hire and make the safe hire that makes the most d@mn sense!Gus gives Tennessee a guy the SEC can respect and a good number of wins each season. If he wants to come to Tennessee you take him.
Love you Dudz, but Gus is a disastrous hire.Do I expect a championship from the man no unless he gets guys that can coach and recruit at a high level. He gives the image of Tennessee a face the SEC can respect and wins to match. Tennessee could do a lot worse than Gus some folks should really reconsider Gus.
