Dooley was not a better coach. How did this rumor get started?

He was 4-18 in the SEC. Last SEC loss he was already out but during his timeframe we went 4-19 in the SEC.

Dooley:

15-21 (4-18)

Pruitt

16-19 (10-16)

Dooley put up points, that’s it. Terrible coach. Worse than Pruitt.
He had lots of close games that last season. Sunseri was a disaster, but we hung close and weren't obliterated by everyone like with Pruitt.

4-18 is not more competitive than 10-16 no matter how you slice it
Pruitt has lost 12 of his 26 SEC games by 21 points. That’s more than Dooley and butch combined I believe. This guy doesn’t compete. He beats reject teams. Dooley had to face a lot tougher competition and performed better on the field. Just came up short.

Dooley had some of the worst luck I’ve seen. Getting robbed twice his first season, lost beat and Hunter his second season, and lost Wilcox his third season and made one terrible hire

You can't really blame "old money" for not fixing problems when "young money" won't step up and fix them, either. People are too invested in taking sides when coming together is the answer.
The human race do suck at times, don't it?... 😔

There's something to be said for Chadwell that we all know our job would absolutely be the peak of the profession for him.

It's also, ironically, the reason the blowback against Pruitt has been so overwhelming and unanimous among the fanbase. We know he'd jump for another job the second it was (hypothetically) offered.
Dude. We don’t won’t Chadwell. We want Freeze.

The Matt Campbell solution feels pretty natural if you are worried your coach is going to bounce on you in one or two years.

You can say what you want about paying infinite amounts of money to get your guy. That guy's buyout has clearly kept poachers away.

I do think Campbell has topped out at Iowa State and reached his ceiling. He needs to cash in while he's still trendy.

I know I shouldn’t be surprised but yesterday every person who has any connections was saying NO way Pruitt comes back, now he’s staying? WTF I am so disgusted right now. To see how Pruitt has managed this roster should be reason enough to part ways..

It was comparable to what Florida offered him, 6 years around 35 million bucks total.

What I am saying is Tennessee didn't offer him a serious offer and make him not wait out Florida.

A "Serious Offer" would have been perceived as definitely "overpaying" for Mullen and Grantham, but there is nothing wrong with overpaying for a solid coach while sticking it to one of your main rivals.

Regardless, Tennessee never made a serious offer that would have blown Florida's out of the water.
ok, so you have two offers, that compare favorably with one another.

he chose what he believed to be the better situation.

that's the whole point. if $7m/year is the baseline, at what number does the situation matter less? $8m? $9m?

i don't know the answer to that...but $7m is a serious offer.

and with all things being equal.....FL was the choice. and to boot, we met with Mullen over that weekend FL was meeting with Kelly and Frost.....so he didn't have the offer from FL yet, and we didn't get the opportunity to counter. FL matched, and he took it.

I remember laughing at Vegas having the O/U for our win total at 3.5 preseason. They seriously have some f'n legit crystal balls or some time travelers in Vegas. In the meantime, even the most nega here at Volnation had the floor at 4-5 wins. Boy were we wrong. It's amazing to me that anyone would be fighting to save Pruitt's job at this point.
Maybe we should have Vegas pick our next coach.

Fanbase is starting to check out. Attendance totals prove it. They are getting more and more fed up. And the younger generation could care less. I bet we average 60k next year if Pruitt survives. And less every year we keep him. We are literally waving the white flag.

If people have a chance to return to some normalcy with tailgating, no capacity requirements on Neyland, and other stuff, they will 1000% flock to Neyland for the first few home games, which is looking like 3 straight home games to open the season.

Nothing is given, but if we are 3-0 and rolling into first SEC game and Pruitt is still the coach, people will be there in upper 80-100K attendance.

I think people underestimate the fact of how many people would kill to be able to have a saturday to go to a game or experience the Hill on gameday.

And it has zero to do with who is coaching on the sidelines.

The buyout's not as daunting to some schools as the "no, thanks." The same names get calls for most power program openings. It seldom gets past the agent.

The big names can go where they want for the money they want. Or wait around until the right job comes open... if they want to coach.
this is what i was getting at earlier.

Reading some of the Auburn message boards and most dont seem to think Napier has been offered. He is the new leader, but Clark looks like he will get a 2nd interview.
