Most coaches would jump for another job. For most, it's all about the money. Contracts don't hold people when schools are willing to pay outrageous sums to get the name they want.
don't you think that only applies to a certain segment of the potential candidate list? i mean, if you're at a g5, 2nd tier type school, going from several hundred thousand-$1M/year to $3-4M+ a year is a big deal.
but as we've seen, once guys, and there are a lot of them now, that hit that benchmark, they don't necessarily leave for an extra $m/year or whatever.
situation, circumstance, recruiting, competition, administration, stability, rosters....there's a lot to it now, especially when the shelf life is 3 years these days.
we offered Gundy, what $6/7M/year last time around and he said no thanks.....now the guy at Coastal, would jump on that.,...or Napier or whatever....but to get a guy that we think is capable and able, that kind of money is available almost anywhere, and they can choose the situation or just stay where they are.
Mullen wanted FL. Kirby wanted UGA. as we already found out with Mullen, we weren't going to win that battle. so absent UF not ever offering him the job, we weren't going to get him.
