Most coaches would jump for another job. For most, it's all about the money. Contracts don't hold people when schools are willing to pay outrageous sums to get the name they want.

Heck Illinois pays as much for a HC as we do.

Dooley was not a better coach. How did this rumor get started?

He was 4-18 in the SEC. Last SEC loss he was already out but during his timeframe we went 4-19 in the SEC.

Dooley:

15-21 (4-18)

Pruitt

16-19 (10-16)

Dooley put up points, that’s it. Terrible coach. Worse than Pruitt.

Since those are two of our last three coaches, the joke is on us anyway.

mullen was never picking TN over FL. that you don't believe it doesn't make it any less true.

Once again, Tennessee never made a serious offer that could compete with Florida for Mullen. This is fact. There was an offer to Mullen. This is fact. Mullen was either coming to Tennessee or Florida that offseason.

Just because you read a tweet saying otherwise doesn't make it any less true.

He waited out BOTH Kelly and Frost. That’s how badly he coveted the Florida job.

But if Kelly or frost don’t turn down Florida he is either here or still at miss state. I don’t think it’s fair to say he waited those two out. They chose those two over Mullen. He just got lucky they both said no.

sure he was, if he's your guy and you're not going to take "no" for an answer.

i still don't think that makes enough of a difference in that situation though. unless someone knows otherwise, we never even got to the point to make him an offer....

Yeah, the Deerpark logic just doesn’t work under the current circumstances. If we had a Gus type season this year, then waiting a year for better options might be a reasonable approach. But we absolutely tanked in comical fashion, and now have an NCAA cloud over our heads.

I remember laughing at Vegas having the O/U for our win total at 3.5 preseason. They seriously have some f'n legit crystal balls or some time travelers in Vegas. In the meantime, even the most nega here at Volnation had the floor at 4-5 wins. Boy were we wrong. It's amazing to me that anyone would be fighting to save Pruitt's job at this point.

The Matt Campbell solution feels pretty natural if you are worried your coach is going to bounce on you in one or two years.

You can say what you want about paying infinite amounts of money to get your guy. That guy's buyout has clearly kept poachers away.

The buyout's not as daunting to some schools as the "no, thanks." The same names get calls for most power program openings. It seldom gets past the agent.

The big names can go where they want for the money they want. Or wait around until the right job comes open... if they want to coach.

He wasn't sticking around Miss State. That was his last season to coach in Starkville. He was moving from Starkville one way or the other.

This morning on Swain out of nowhere and I’m just paraphrasing here. He said something along the lines of being a VFL and there was no way he would ever say anything to hurt the program. I found it kinda odd at that moment but then it started making sense... He drops hints like that from time to time... He knows who leaked it.

This guy is getting drug up and down the field in year three where we beat a high school all star team in vandy, a god awful SC team, and a Mizzou team that hadn’t found their QB yet.

4-18 is not more competitive than 10-16 no matter how you slice it

The reason i say Dooley was better although the sec record doesn’t show it...... is because he literally took over a complete tire fire and the SEC particularly our schedule was much more difficult than what Pruitt has had to face.

It was comparable to what Florida offered him, 6 years around 35 million bucks total.

What I am saying is Tennessee didn't offer him a serious offer and make him not wait out Florida.

A "Serious Offer" would have been perceived as definitely "overpaying" for Mullen and Grantham, but there is nothing wrong with overpaying for a solid coach while sticking it to one of your main rivals.

Regardless, Tennessee never made a serious offer that would have blown Florida's out of the water.
