You’re a pioneer. First to ever mention it. How’s that reinventing the wheel so it’ll be rounder project coming along? 😴 Not sure what screenname you used to have but I’m sure you were just as interesting.

My bad man didn't know that was a touchy subject. This is the only account I've ever had though

38 Days: How Alabama Pulled off the Great Heist of Nick Saban

READ IT...LET IT BURN IN YOUR MIND THE DEPTHS MAL MOORE WENT TO GET HIS GUY.

“ The flux from January 1997 to January 2007 included a 1-9 record against Tennessee, a 3-7 record against Auburn, a 3-7 record against LSU, and losses to a murderers row of also-rans: Kentucky, Central Florida, Louisiana Tech, Northern Illinois, and Southern Miss. A new paradigm of high turnover and NCAA sanctions had shifted the Tide from elite program to laughingstock. If anything, the Shula hire brought stability (but not wins) and by late November 2006, Alabama sat at a paltry 6-6 and was looking forward to another Shreveport-esque bowl.”

Key word, heist. Probably the best word to describe how the UT decision makers should be planning their next coaching move.

Simply do the opposite of what we’ve done the last decade. Go after (privately) the coaches that don’t seem obtainable (NFL/College) and unload the brinks truck on them. Considering the amount of money we are spending on buyouts, we probably could have bought anyone in the country.

It’s no secret to the world that Pruitt is going in the wrong direction and any team would consider a change, but we have a very clear track record of how not to hire a coach and it looks like we’re potentially heading down that same path. Hoping the people at the top aren’t thinking like majority of VolNation and looking for immediate satisfaction. It’s not a good look considering the supposed standard that UT football is held to.

He was "gonna wait on FL no matter what" because the offer Tennessee made wasn't anything special to make him not wait for Florida. You're missing my point. I simply said that Tennessee didn't make a serious enough offer (that would have been perceived as "overpaying for Dan Mullen" in the media) that would have forced Mullen to make a decision before Florida and Chip Kelly finished their whole back and forth.

The deal being offered by Tennessee was nothing that Florida wasn't going to offer. Hence why Mullen was going to wait out Florida.
“Serious” = $10 mil a year. Sounds like a fan engineered “failure”. Next!

I’ve said it before, if we can’t get someone better than Pruitt, then we didn’t really try.

Example: unless Auburn hires him, Napier would come here in a heartbeat. I’d say it’s at least 75/25 among the fanbase would rather take a shot with him than stick with Pruitt.

I mean, I understand your logic in the abstract. But this job won’t be as attractive next season after a full offseason of NCAA mess, fan unrest, losing 2 classes of seniors, transfers, and another year of losing. You’ve got to move now and give your next guy a fighting chance.
It should be 99/1. Whether he’s one of your top choices or not.
Pruitt can’t handle the job. That’s 100%.
Napier or any of the other dozen or so mentioned might be able to.

no, i got the point.

it doesn't make any sense. there was no FL offer. he was making whatever he was making at MSU, and we offered, $6/7M/year for however many years, likely doubling his salary or somewhere around there.
and if iirc, the meeting with Mullen happened before the Schiano deal, so that likely means Mullen was #1 or at least #1a on our list.

so zero in one hand, our offer in the other, and he chose to wait and see would happen at FL....not even knowing that he'd even get that call, he waited.

and when he got that call, he stopped returning our calls....and took what amounted to be the same deal somewhere else. he could have gotten us in to a bidding war to see how far we'd go, and didn't. Money wasn't the primary motivator....

Do you not think 10 million would be worth it to land Mullen plus Grantham while coming off of Butch and sticking it to Florida, 1 of our top rivals?

Easy answer there!

Wow. Is Napier even in play? He apparently previously turned down USCe and Miss St (last year) per Auburn mods. Wonder if UT would change anything for him or he is just very happy where he is.

Of course he is in play for Tennessee - we are his dream school. Duh. Everyone wants to leave where they are and come to Tennessee. It's the best job in the country.

Where is this coming from? Not saying you are wrong at all, just have no clue why he would want us and not AU.
He was born in TN and went to high school in Chatsworth right at the TN border in GA. His dad played at TN Tech. It's all just message board chatter though. When South Carolina was open their mods mentioned Freeze and Napier wanting TN.
