no, i got the point.
it doesn't make any sense. there was no FL offer. he was making whatever he was making at MSU, and we offered, $6/7M/year for however many years, likely doubling his salary or somewhere around there.
and if iirc, the meeting with Mullen happened before the Schiano deal, so that likely means Mullen was #1 or at least #1a on our list.
so zero in one hand, our offer in the other, and he chose to wait and see would happen at FL....not even knowing that he'd even get that call, he waited.
and when he got that call, he stopped returning our calls....and took what amounted to be the same deal somewhere else. he could have gotten us in to a bidding war to see how far we'd go, and didn't. Money wasn't the primary motivator....
The money we were offering was comparable to what Florida was negotiating with to Kelly.......
So why wouldn't you wait on Florida if the offer you have a Tennessee is virtually the same that Florida is prepared to offer their next coach. Worst case, Tennessee and Florida get into a bidding war over you and you make more money.......
But yes, this is obviously revisionist history.....
