I suppose it depends how you look at it and what gets dug up. If Fulmer is as tied in (real facts, very few know the extent), then the investigation will likely uncover it anyway. It would be a career torpedoing move to let this ride out for the sake of attempting to hold leverage. I’m not so sure “sweep-it-under-the-rug” is a valid option here. “Can’t fire me for cause because I have dirt” doesn’t hold water if they’re gonna expose the dirt anyway (or threaten to) and clean house as a result. As tied in as Fulmer was (active participant) in recruiting if there's any inappropriate money or benefits etc it would be very difficult for Fulmer to claim ignorance. Dirt goes both ways and can lead to bigger issues with NCAA. If Pruitt wants to go he might negotiate an exit in that scenario but I've seen no indication from his side he'd be willing to do so.
Edit: and most importantly his contact.
Given that, I’d presume UT actually has move leverage than Pruitt (and by that regard, Fulmer) if there’s more than meets the eye to the investigation.
Not saying you’re wrong, just that the nature and extent of the transgressions may depend who has leverage and why some folks (probably don’t know as much as they think they do) don’t think he will be able to survive this.
